Guillermo Coria is so overrated

Guillermo Coria, the so called Prince of Tennis is known as all hype with no results to back up this claim.

He turned pro in 2000 and has not won even a single Grand Slam...

His most notable achievement? Coria joined Nalbandian as the first players from Argentina to finish in Top 10 for three straight years since Jose-Luis Clerc (4) from 1980-83…

That's it?

I never thought much about Coria but he is such a tough little ******* , considering his small frail, u have to give him credit for fighting tough, he wont blow u away on the court.

I dislike his attitude and the way he conducts himself against opponents. He seems to get involved in more disputes with his fellow players on court than any other player, with the possible exception of Hewitt.

Also Applez, it's rather childish that just because you the user Coria is trolling Serena and Venus fans that you would make this thread to try and "get back" at him.

His strokes are so nice though. He's on the short list of players who possess near perfect modern strokes IMO.

Probably? What is this uncertainty? lol remember summer of 2004 when Coria went 30 something matches undefeated on clay?

I like the guy--he makes for great highlights. He's a counterpuncher who can come to the net. You've got to love his speed and those amazing dropshots. The guy's got some flair, and for a dirtballer, he's OK on hardcourts. On clay, he could beat all of the American players easily. Does that mean he's overrated?

The problem is his serve. Yesterday he made nearly 20 double faults and the speed was very slow. The rest of his game is excellent. Great speed and touch, very good ground strokes and not bad at the net.
After his surgery his serve fell down. He will have to do something with it. Probably it's a confidence problem.

IMO, i don't think he's overrated. He doesn't get as much TV coverage as some of the other players and I rarely hear ESPN even talk about him. But I live in the states... so maybe thats why

Exactly. I don't know why, but he can't seem to get a REAL 1st serve in. He 2nd served, almost, the entire game. The rest of his game is out of this world.

Actually, the first months of the year, he was serving superbly, specially on Davis Cup against Czech Republic, blasting 120+ first serves on and on, including a couple of 130's and one 134.

In april, actually, his serve started to go down... and down... and down, until this match, which has been the worst serving delivery I've seen from ANY male.

Who's overrating him? What are they saying about him?

From what I've seen, he's generally regarded as...

- a threat in any claycourt event (true)

- a pest to all but the best players, but not really a legit title contender at big hardcourt events (true)

- a non-factor on grass (true)

- a legitimate top-level player with no real claim to greatness (true)

These are the things I hear about him, and these strike me as the realities as well. I feel that in general, he's rated pretty accurately.

Remember that the Davis Cup speed guns report higher than the normal ones.

32 to be precise.

I wouldn't call any of the Top 10 players overrated. I just don't get why people at this forum are always having something to say against him. This is not the first thread about how Coria sucks or whatever. Let it go already. IMO,he's one of the best claycourters out there. And, if it was possible for Goran to win Wimbledon on a wild card at the end of his career I don't see why Coria couldn't win the French. Nadal or no Nadal.
