How did this person get a 4.0C rating?

Player has no prior USTA league history prior to the 2022 season. Player received a default in a 4.0 league match on 10/23/2021. Player played first ever 4.0 league match on 11/6/2021. Played a second 4.0 league match on 12/11/2021. That was the extent of his 4.0 league tennis history until last night. He has a year end 4.0C rating dated 12/31/2021. How does this even happen? He did play one 4.0 singles tournament last year, as well as a 5.0 doubles tournament. I am at a loss here. Our section does count tournament results in year end ratings, but how do you turn playing 1 league match before ratings were released into a computer rating? If anything I think he should have a T rating. Thoughts?

Is he way better than a 4.0?

Well last night he went 3 sets against what I would say is a good 4.5 singles player and won more games than he lost. That's what made me take a look at him.
TR should have a dynamic rating for him, which should give you a good estimate of his level.

I have friends that have given me a complete rundown of his skill level. That's not what I am worried so much about. I really just want to know how playing one match gets you a C rating.

In my experience, if someone plays enough (3) matches between league and tournaments (in sections where tournaments count), they will get a year-end rating. If and even just one of those matches is a league match, the year-end rating they get will be a C and not a T. So I believe that is what happened in this case.

Assuming he won the match on 11/06 relatively easy to a computer rated 4.0, that's enough to get him computer rated.
Far as I know there is no minimum amount of matches required to get a computer rating. So if you time it right, that's how it happens.

Nope, you have to have three matches to get a C rating. If you play less than three, you will remain self-rated.
