I worked on spin serves last year. Kick, slice, top-slice. Also vary the pace.

If you go back a few years into the archives, i spent a few years tryin' to learn the kick serve to no avail (when i first joined this forum). Also, tried to learn multiple serves at once. Then i changed course, and only worked on one serve for a couple years. Flat at first. Then one spin serve. Now multiple spin serves. Brain gets confused if you're learning all the serves at once and it was a total fail.

Kick and twist serve is way over my head

I use topspin second serve but can't get big kick
My serve needs a serve coach

I know I can win at 4.5 if my serve was way better
I have good endure and speed and consistent groundies and smarts but my serve just kills me

Simple, bend elbow to 90, hold the racket with just your index and middle fingers, start your swing from a vertical racket position, lean back, bend knees.

Maybe LeeD will drive over from SF for $150/hour.

Tis 13 hours drive to Portland. I"d go to windsurf the Columbia River, at least for a couple of days.
I'd never charge for helping a friend with his tennis. Just like I pass windsurf gear along to my friends who need it, and never profit even to windsurfer's I don't know.

I thought he was interested on Phoenix or Las Vegas.

Hmm thats what I used to think. I worked and worked and worked on my serve and now it is my strength. Getting it the point of being compotent has just made me see the holes in the rest of my game.

Do you have any videos of your ground game?

I've been working on making my second serve almost the same as the first, just with a bit more topspin, which I get from a faster swing and more of an upward swing, more use of the legs.

I used to do a lot of top-slice, kick and even the occasional twist when I got it right, but nowadays I enjoy serving flatter and faster. Addicted to pace.

Which means of course that I do hit the odd double fault. In fact last Saturday in a league singles match I served a game that had just 4 double faults. First time ever, and it was on clay, so totally unnecessary. But won the match, so no drama.
