How do you hit that shot?

There I was flicking through some old Federer videos and this popped out. Oh my freaking God, a backhand DTL winner on the full run hit with a single handed backhand. The only other player I've seen hit this shot is Kuerten on clay but even then it was rare.

Federer's backhand was really performing in the second half of 2006, it was nearly as good as his forehand.

It seems that Federer got to the ball in great time. Really good movement, Federer did not compromise balance on the way to the ball either. If you can move like Federer, you can do more with the ball rather than just loop it back crosscourt.

Please tell me you did not jus make a thread on a forum asking how to hit a particular spectacular backhand Roger Federer made in his prime? Please tell me you did not jus do that?

It's not that tough of a shot. I see players at my club hit that shot all the time...

I've hit a backhand winner down the line on the run before. It was more of a passing shot since my friend had come into the net, but it was a pretty special shot. Took it super early too. It is pretty rare to make a shot like that though.

Difference is, Roger understands how he did that, on a technical basis, you, you jus took the ball early and hit the jackpot.

Not so tough I've done that many times. Its a low % shot. Sometimes your forced to hit shots like this due to the lack of time you have not because you want to hit it.

I think the OP is referring to the shot at around 2.46 right? Simon Reed in the commentator's box remarked to Frew McMillan that a shot like that "almost makes you want to pack your bags and go home"! LOL!
