how heavy is your racquet?

I'm using Yonex RDX500 which is 310g as stated on the racquet, unstrung I assume. The shop didn't have 4 1/2 grip size so they gave me 4 1/4 with a heat-shrink sleeve added. It was lighter than my previous racquet RD power 10 so I added heaps of lead tape to the head. Then I felt the grip was still too small, so I added some duct tape onto my grip. It played fine all this while 'cos my friends were of similar level as me. But recently, I've been doing practising with a much better player and I realised I couldn't handle the weight of the racquet under his barrage of shots. So I weighed my racquet in my lab and it was 400g! I removed the duct tape and lead tape and it still weighed 370g. Is this an average weight for a strung racquet? How much does a set a strings weigh (I'm using full bed of SPPP)? What about replacment grips and heat-shrink sleeve? I'm really surprised by the extra weight. That's heavier than most pros I believe. Or are theirs weighed unstrung?

I have two Liquidmetal MPs, before I (very recently) leaded them up one came in at 321g and the other 324g on my scales at home (admittedly not the most scientific I know). My PS6.0 95s came in at 348 and 353 respectively.
I wouldn't think that 400 is too much, thats only about 14 ounces. I've met guys who play with up to 2 more than that. That said I have no idea how heavy the pro's racquets are

Oh no, prepare for answers that will say that guys are playing with 16 oz racquets. He-Man, Superman and the Hulk are all members of this board.

My 2 RDS 001 MP are leaded up to 12.1 ounces or 344 grams. The stock weights aren't the same. One weighs about 11.4 and the other 11.7 or something like that. I have about 8 inches more lead on one of them.

lol that's so true. I'm using an RDX-500 Mid and it currently weighs around 12oz. even. All I have on it is a Supergrap overgrip and a vibration dampener. I've found that I like sticks that are around 12 oz. and about 1 in. headlight.

I use Tecnifibre TFight 325. It was 12.1oz before I changed to leather grip, without Yonex Supergrap overgrip, without my dampener, and with synthetic gut strings and not my poly hybrid. I predict about 12.5 - 13oz. I'm not sure though.

I think it is amazing, probably coincidental, that everyone who has replied to this thread has a stick over 12 ounces. Most seem to be closer to 13 ounces! I am pretty sure there is a reason that those are the people that have replied to this thread... That or this forum is even more out of touch with reality?

Where are the tennis courts where everyone is playing with 13 ounce rackets?

2 k90's at 12.6 ounces.
Is that the US or the Asian k90? Strung or unstrung?

It's because the thread title is asking, "How HEAVY is your racket?"
It doesn't say "How LIGHT is your racket?" does it?

Two primary racquets in my bag, strung, with overgrip, and dampener, and powerpads installed:
349.8 grams and 352.3 grams, or about 12.35 oz.

Heavier racquets don't necessarily make you better players, you know :p even though that seems to be what alot of people are convinced of around here... You'de surprised how many futures players play with light racquets like Pure Drives in their stock form.

A full size (1/8 increment) heat sleeve weighs 1/2 ounce. To build up from 1/4 to 1/2 requires 2 heat sleeves and that is a full ounce or around 28 grams added to the handle.

heavier racquets make me a better player, just ask the pure drive that I got for free then it was sold.

Or the:
Prince TT Warrior OS
Prince TT Bandit OS
Prince Diablo Mid
Prince Shark OS
Prince More Precision (?)
Babolat Pure Control
Head LM Prestige MP (this one was ok, hehe)
Head LM Instinct
Wilson Ntour Two
Wilson Hyper Hammer something
Wilson Ncode 95 (this one was ok too)
Discontinued Wilson Racquet (It's blue..)
Discontinued Yonex Racquet (It sucked)

Basically, all the racquets (might have missed some) that I have "touched" in my life. (We're not going to count the Wilson W Line Blue Steel).

Bought them at a local store. yeah I do feel lucky, not only because of the lighter weight, but because they both have the SAME weight, and feel identical.

I keep hearing about people complaining that each one they own is different in weight.

I doubt that it's coincidence. People that stop to think about how much their racquet weighs are more likely to use lead tape, which means they probably aren't going to be using a light racquet.

^ No.

If this thread was entitled, "How LIGHT is your racket?" we would probably only be getting replies like, "7 ounces strung!"

How much does your racket weigh?/How heavy is your racket?/How light is your racket? aren't asking the same question.

Most people who actually bother to weigh their racquets are those who customize them. Usually you don't get to this point if you are using a 10 oz racquet.

That said I am using a stock racquet without lead. Overgrip, vib damp, and head tape brings it to 11.5 oz. Woohoo sub 12 oz!;)

Amen.

I use a stock Ksix-one team, which is 10.4 oz (290-ish grams). But, I'm 5'4" tall, so it would be kind of hard to use a 13 oz. stick now wouldn't it?

About 14.2 oz - Original Kennex Black Ace w/overgrip and head tape
About 13.5 oz - Prince Graphite 20th Anniversary with heat sleeve, overgrip, weights on head and at base of grip.

I do miss my Jack Kramer Pro Staffs, but they would start cracking in only a couple of weeks of play (several hours/day) so paying for a graphite racket was much cheaper.

Goober has a point about those that customize their rackets are the ones who know the weights of them and probably use much heavier rackets than most players.

so dolight rackets.

I didn't say heavy ones are good for everyone. find what you play the best with.

RDX that's 370g? Something doesn't add up...

Is it the mid or the MP?

A full size (1/8 increment) heat sleeve weighs 1/2 ounce. To build up from 1/4 to 1/2 requires 2 heat sleeves and that is a full ounce or around 28 grams added to the handle.

It's the MP. It's supposedly about 335g strung according to some websites. Say my racquet is slightly heavier than the average RDX500, 345g maybe. A layer of heat-shrink sleeve, about 15g. Overgrip, about 5g. That's about right I guess. All that nitty gritty sure add up.

315 grams. I am thinking about adding lead to it to bring it up to 400 grams so that I can use the other normal one in competitive play because this one will be too heavy.

Prince Diablo mid w/Kevlar-syn gut hybrid and overgrip. 12.4-12.5 oz.

The alleged strung weight is 12.2 or 12.3 oz depnding on the source.
