I've known for a long time the benefits of video recording when it comes to tennis. Recently within the last month or so I started taping my matches. It has been more than enlightening! I can say with great confidence to everyone here, YOU DO NOT look like you think you do when you play. Seeing yourself on video shows so many nuances to your game. It’s easy to criticize others when we see a video of them (people do here ALL the time), if you’re not video recording your matches, I strongly encourage you to start. I had a a match last week that I recorded and my opponent said “wow you record your matches? I’m afraid to see what I look like on film”. I could see why some don’t want to video their matches, it’s an understandable fear. However, if you want to improve in your game it’s imperative to start video taping.
Just a quick observation from watching my own games, I tend to play nice guy/safe tennis. I can hit much harder than I do in actual games, I hold back for fear of missing the shot. Even worse on some points I hit the ball back to my opponent as if it’s a cooperative rally. LOL I know, I know of course you’re not so supposed to hit a cooperative rally during a match, but this was another observation I made.
Bottom line, you can learn a lot from watching pro matches, you can learn even more by watching your own matches. Find a way to start video recording yourself.
