How to make that "pop" sound.

Every time I take a huge cut at the ball, my frame doesn't make a sharp loud noise - just a thud. Some of my friends (who are pretty good), always seem to get this pop noise regardless of how hard they hit the ball.

Why is this? I mean, they do consistently hit the ball hard, but they're able to get that same noise even when they hit a medium pace ball.

Is it the strings?

It means they really hit and drive through the ball. If you have a wiping finish with your stroke, you may be having issues with that.

IMHO - poly strings seem to give off a louder pop than other synthetic strings.

It may also be perspective. I notice the pop of strings off other's rackets more than mine because I"m to busy concentrating to really listen.

I also noticed some frames give off more of a ping, than a pop.

Anyway, I'd worry less about the sound and more about the results of the stroke.

I think you are talking about the pop from the ball pancaking against the stringbed. It easier to do this if you hit hard and flat with an eastern grip on th fh.
