Rafa is doing what Connors did after he was 32: attacking the net a lot more, volleying pretty darn well and reducing his schedule. He's also done something Jimbo couldn't do and that's beef up his serve. I was watching again his 2005 Miami match against Fed and his first serve then was often under 100 MPH. Now he's routinely serving 120+ all the time, which is a BIG improvement.

If he stays injury-free, why couldn't he play 3-4 more years? Maybe not at the level of winning slams, but still a force on tour and top 5. None of the young guys have 1/10th his will or mental strength. I predict he will roll easily to his 13th RG title in 6 months. (hardly going out on a limb there). Thiem and the rest aren't anywhere near his level on clay, even though Rafa will be 34 when the final is played!
lol dominic will get to rafa s level on clay since he already beat him several times on it. His problems against nadal in roland garros are both mental and matchup problems . If he gets past his mental problems he will push nadal hard even there.

Tennis is a predominantly physical sport. While mentality does matter, it doesn't change the predominant physical nature of tennis. If Thiem hasn't defeated Nadal at RG so far is because Nadal is a much better clay player than him, not any "mental problem" or "matchup issue" (whatever that means).

Chess is a purely mental sport, not tennis. With all the "mental problems" excuses, you make it look like a Nadal-Thiem match is the World Chess Championship.

I love this quote from Nadal, a lot of hobbyists as well as pros could learn from it:

I don’t understand going on court just to practise,” he says. “I go on court to improve something. That’s the way that I understand my career, the way that I understand sport. I really don’t find the motivation to go on court if I don’t have the goal of trying to do something better. And when the day arrives when that is not the case, that’s going to be the day that I’ll take a boat out and go fishing.

Nadal believes the desire to improve is the very essence of sport. “If you don’t have the will to improve, you don’t understand sport, because sport is always about improving,” he says. “That’s the meaning of sport. It’s playing with the dream of doing something better than what you were doing before. When you’re not working with the passion to do something better, I think that sport loses its sense.
Improved Nadal confirmed.

This was after Bret had left to go to WCW, Shawn and Triple had coaxed Anvil to join them, which then left Owen to be the last remaining member of the Hart Foundation, which then helped him turn face so he could feud with Triple H for the title. They were basically thanking Owen for not jumping ship to WCW after Bret left, by putting him in the IC title picture as a face.

Lol I bet Jim wanted to kill them. (Owen too) what an awkward time for them.

Well, Anvil was let go of straight after anyway. His idea of going to DX was really to get Owen over as a face. If you recall Owen had vanished after losing to Austin at Survivor Series, and they kept him off TV until the DX pay per view, where Shawn was defending against Shamrock. Owen attacks and throws him into the table, thus having his face turn. He was called The Black Heart at the time, and DX used to call him The Nugget because he was the piece that was still floating around in the toilet after they flushed the Hart Foundation down.

Bret's life really took a downturn starting with Montreal (and those he loved) the whole thing really sucks. Im sure you've seen Wrestling With Shadows, it's just so dirty. Losing Owen, Davey, Pillman, basically his career, having a stroke, just all of it sucks. He deserved better.

Agreed. The pro wrestling industry is the cause of so many unfortunate and premature deaths.
Sad seeing this picture where everyone except Bret Hart is gone. And even Bret almost passed on from a stroke. He was very lucky.

It's bad enough that Vince basically turned on him and forced him to go to WCW when he didn't want to. Whether I agree with Bret fully or not, Vince should have been a MAN and told Bret he didn't agree with the finish. I can only imagine how Vince had to feel when Owen died.

I don't know if I could ever assault a man who made me a millionaire and a top superstar. Bret was a multi time world champion, tag team champion and IC champion and WWF's highest paid performer. Vince didn't want Bret to leave for WCW with the belt in tow. He wanted Bret to drop the title to Shawn in Montreal and Bret refused. So since it's Vince's company and Vince's rules, Vince did what he had to do to protect his company. Bret probably should've just did the job to Shawn and been done with it. Vince and Bret made peace some years later. It didn't happen after Owen's death. It happened after Bret's stroke. Vince visited Bret in the hospital and they both did business again and Bret got access to all the archives and was able to release his best matches on DVD and get into the WWE HOF along with The Anvil last year whom Bret inducted. Plus there's a ton of Bret's merchandise on the WWE shop so it's good to see they managed to come to some resolution.

That's what I mean by I don't completely agree with Bret either, but Vince could have told him it wasn't ok instead of acting like it was even in the meeting before the match.

Hour and 20 mins, 30 seconds mark. Makes me sick.

I can't believe Bret let Vince spit on him in 2010, no money is dirty enough lol

I think Vince had planned on going to Bret's locker room and explaining his actions to Bret right after the match but Bret decked him instead. That's the story that was told.

It would be great to see Rafa lifting the MWTC trophy again and again! Vamos Rafa!

The woman in the photo is Ashwaq Abdulla, the 2019 trophy designer who is the first Emirati female to create the trophy for this championship.

What do you think of her work? I think they should do trophies similar to the Slams or Barcelona.

The MWTC trophy represents one of Abu Dhabi's iconic landmarks, which is a symbol of co-existence, unity and tolerance.

To each is own symbol.

I wanna read it. I read the Rock's book and Foley's book. Thanks for reminding me, I need to read Shawn's too

Bret's book is the best of the bunch, I have all of them. Shawn's is not as good IMO, neither is Hogan's but they are OK. Bret's is good because he was actually recording like an audio diary when he was young, so he used that to write his book, which is why it is so detailed from start to finish. He had always intended to write something for himself when he reached the end of his career.

I bought that book back in 2009 while I was at Wrestle Mania 25 in Houston. I was flying off to Hawaii later with my family for Spring Break, so that book was intended to be my reading while I was relaxing on the beach.
