I need help here

Hi guys my son is a very high ranked junior in our state 18 he is currently using the wilson pro staff 100l 2012 he is telling me it is getting to light. What should i do? He wants to try the pro staff 97. His strings are luxilon m2 mains 51 and xcel cross 52. He is 5 foot muscular and athletic. He really wants to try the pro staff 97 would it be good. Also he tried his friends for 15 minutes and he loved it. He hated the 97ls though. PLZ HELP:)

Let him try an PS, or add around 16" of 1/2" lead tape to the 3-9 position on the head of his racket and see if he can swing it early, quick, and often enough.

Blind leading the blind?
What's SW of PS100, like 305?
What's SW of PS97, like 320?
Are you going to inject the lead directly into your son's shoulder?

You can add lead in very small increments, short strips are fractions of a gram. It's much cheaper to try than buying a new racquet.

This! You should read up on all this stuff is my .02. Get knowledgable and then get some demos.

ok guys but his rackets are very worn out from 3 year use and i think maybe a new racket would be good

Then get him a new racket then :). Personally I love the PS97. Demo the Yonex AI 98 if you can unless he has his heart set on a Wilson. I prefer that just a little more than the PS97

Also i bought him 2 97ls but he didn't like them but i strung them 50 51 and he was missing or hitting it short since the 97ls has so much more power than the 100l should i bump the tension up to 54 55 and let him try it then and see

If he was missing long, then I would try to up the tension a bit. If he is hitting short, like inside the service line, it could just be an adjustment period with the 18x16 spin pattern. I hit with a lot of topspin and the first time I hit with the LS, I was giving my opponent a lot of easy put-aways inside the service line. Once I focused on really driving through the ball, I was fine

A PS97 would be an excellent choice. After demoing 6 frames this Spring it's the racquet of choice for me. Modified to my liking of course. But you guys can always do the same. It does everything very well imo. It may actually be perfect in stock form for him. Seriously... give it a try.

would he just need to flatten the shots more to drive them

At contact, extend out and then up. This way your ball is more penetrating into the court and not so loopy. This is a common thing I see with juniors I coach. At contact, they hit just straight up. This gives lots of topspin, but causes the ball to land short often. That's not saying hitting loopy shots isn't a good thing because it is. High, loopy balls to a backhand give people fits

Ok He Just Played With The 97ls he didn't really like it he said too much power when he wanted to drive it but when he wanted to control it he missed long or short so he's sticking with the 100l now but we will demo blade 98 16x19 and pro staff 97 after his national selection tourney
