If Djokovic breaks/equals Federer's 17, what would that mean to Fed's "deals" ?

Easy question. Perhaps someone who is involved in marketing could answer this better.

If Djokovic breaks/equals Federer's 17 slams (not that they mean much anyway, in my book), what would it mean to his sponsorship deals ?

It would be a MAJOR "spoke in the wheel" in his overall "aura", wouldn't you think ?

we'll cross the bridge when we reach to river.
I don't think the river is all that far away, personally. If he takes this years RG, I think he will take Wimbledon, and possibly US Open.

The only thing that can stop him now, is Murray, under the guidance of Lendl.

I think people won't respond well to this here haha. But I think you're right it will take away some of his shine. Plenty of it is just due to the image/coolness/style etc. along with being an all time great. And that won't go away if he is still an all time great but not the greatest (slam wise). It would add a bit of a wrinkle. Also interesting to see what would happen to Novak's image.

When Federer retires he won't be in the limelight to the same extent, so the days of mega bucks sponsorship deals are numbered anyway.

I do have to admire your inventiveness for coming up with new angles with which to make a 'cheap' dig. Well done you OP!

Stats obsessed fans on this board will not see him as GOAT anymore. To the general public however, I don't think it changes a damn thing. He'll always be the most popular player and one of the most marketable.

Nope, nothing anti-Federer in this post. I am just curious at what would happen. It is clear he is the most popular player, and get's the best sponsorship deals. But I am curious to see what would happen if his most important stat is broken/equaled.

Luckily, we will never get to know the answer of this question.

Love those desperate attention seeking threads from Djokovic fanboys. They are so desperate and hope that their beloved hero is respected and if we do not declare him as a GOAT, they strike with all their insecurity wraths at us in every single situation possible.

At 17 majors each, Fed would still be regarded as the better player due to his style.

Novak has to get 18. He just crossed the half way mark.

Even assuming he gets there, Fed will always have the "aura" like Borg and Laver.

On top of it, Djokovic is from LOL, Serbia and Fed is from the cool Swiss land.

I see that argument being used frequently, but imo, his nationality is vastly overrated as a negative driving force, just as Fed's nationality isn't a driving force behind his popularity. I'd even go so far as saying they are negligible.

Lukas Rosol would be just as "uncharismatic", even if he was Serb, Swiss, Japanese or American (US).
Just as Ana Ivanovic would be the polar opposite ;-)

It wouldn't mess with him at all from a marketing standpoint. Even if Djokovic ends up having the better career, he won't ever have the cultural impact off the court as Federer or even Nadal. Federer was the perfect person to be GOAT for tennis. Super well spoken, all the languages, godly aesthetic to his playing style, very stylish, and almost as importantly, plays in Nike gear.

It's like Tim Duncan vs Kobe, you can make the argument Duncan had a better career, but he will never have the off-the-court impact that Kobe did.

For women, it has always been based on looks. Kournikova, Sharapova, Ivanovic...

I do think for men it matters.. Take the case of Berdych, Troicki, Cilic..Players who have achieved a bit , yet not many people care.
