What would you say are the best matches he has ever played?

My nominations are:

1. Shanghai 2010 final against Fed. Fed had no answer to Murray that day. Murray was incredibly aggressive.
2. Toronto 2010 final against Fed. Another aggressive Murray match.
3. Tokyo 2011 final vs Nadal. Murray GOATed in the last 2 sets.
4. RG 2016 SF vs Wawrinka. A very good match by Murray who took Stan out of his GOATing zone.

His CC BH was as good as any ever in these three matches. It was a real thing of beauty in general but these matches it was something else.

No I get it - just don’t think Fed representing his country would let his level drop having never won Olympic gold. For Murray springboard for slam success. Retaining it in 2016 was remarkable.

Murray used to be so aggressive. It's sad that he resorted to 80% defensive play. A more aggressive approach could have prolonged his career by 2 extra years at least.

The 2016 Roland Garros semi with Stan is one of the only times I've ever seen Andy Murray play tennis and seen the magic the media in this country seems to think he produces on a regular basis (not saying he doesn't do it, just that I never see it) That was a beautiful dismantling of a performance.

His matches at the WTF in 2016 with Nishikori and Raonic were amazing too. That was the week he maybe wowed me more than any other.

Wouldn’t call it a friendly. The Olympics aren’t important to me when comparing legacies, but I’m sure players are all dying to win a gold medal. No doubt Fed wanted to win that match really badly, but he was just gassed and came short.

I hope to get a couple of Top Spin games in over the weekend. I will be using Andy Murray.

''My player pretty much has similar stats to Federer and my coach is the Swiss guy on gold level. I am at level 20, play on very hard and play full length games (i.e best of 5 set slams). For the most part I find "very hard" quite easy (I initially struggled but worked out that body positioning has a huge bearing creating winning shot angles). Beating all the top guys without giving away more than 2 or 3 games per set but Andy Murray does the reverse on me. I can be timing the ball well for a whole tournament but as soon as Murray starts his slice backhand and wicked angled shots cross court I struggle. He was a player of an incredible consistency, but he never had a big game, that's why he won only three grand slams, even though he reached numerous of finals.

How so ?

He’s been either placed in the Big 4 (perhaps the junior member) or Big 3 + 1 for a good chuck of his career, with everyone else way behind (except for a brief period Stan). Which seems appropriately rated.

As far as where he rates in the Open Era time will tell but he sometimes got the better of The Big 3 at the Majors and will be rated accordingly.

In the next round (QF) he was one game away from going down two sets to Cilic but he saved it, won the set in a breaker and Cilic only won two more games the last two sets, getting bagled in the fourth.

I kind of think that maybe if he had just backed off a little in 2016 that he would still be healthy. No way of knowing that for sure though. He surely could've benefited from shortening points. Man that dude never gave up on a ball. It's what I admired about him the most even though it's probably what did him in.

He had such a long career and played at an extremely high level in so many matches that I think it's difficult to pick just one. His performances against Fedovic at the 2012 Olympics and against Nadal in the 2011 Tokyo final would certainly be right up there though.

2012 Olympics Semi-Final and Final were brilliant performances really. Probably his best level on grass.

US Open 2008 Final, Tokyo 2011 Final - absolutely unplayable in certain patches.

US Open 2016 vs Dimitrov, maybe R4? Not talked about as much since it wasn't against one of the other three big guys, but this was about as perfect as it gets from Murray throughout an entire BO5 match. Didn't have even a single let down
