Say Federer forehand, Wawrinka backhand, Kyrgios serve for example all combined in a single player. Can this player even beat Nadal at RG first of all? Second of all can they even be GOAT being overall better than Nadal and Djkokovic?

This sounds like a troll post, but I'll take the bait. Yes and yes: he is Borg, he will annihilate you. Actually, I think it would be too close to call between Borg and Rafa.

Borg wasn't really a total singlehander though, he hit almost like Connors. Kind of a hybrid, with a two handed takeback and the left hand leaving the racquet much later in the follow-through.

:sniff: Well, if you're going to get technical about it :p

I think Gasquet showed in that last set what a one-handed backhand can do against Rafa. He's just not the guy to do it (mental block, cocaine use [an ounce or less and you are dead against Rafa], flakiness). Musetti who has a similar backhand also did a good job in his match against Nole. Could he have beat Rafa in 2021 at RG? I don't think so, but just Wait 'Til Next Year!

Surprised no one mentioned Tsitsipas! Maybe he is not quite good enough but we will soon find out....

The answer to your question is obviously yes. Two handed paddle shots are okay in the WTA. It's not like every woman is capable to being a Henin.

For men's tennis? Really, just learn to hit a proper backhand or get the surgery and join the WTA.

I mean, prior to Rafa and Nole, the three best players of all time had 1HBHs. I think it's definitely possible, and I think that Fed is the better player than Rafa and Nole adjusted for age. But you have to have ALL the other tools, and most of the guys with GOAT 1hs don't have those. I think Fed and Stan showed that the 1h "has a higher peak" than the 2h but obviously has a bigger downside

Look, the poor guy might have to play Novak or Rafa if he gets to the final. The last thing he needs is for us to jinx him. But yes, he can do it.

De gustibus non est disputandum
. Roger is an amazing player, but does he beat Rafa on his home turf? Yes, if they play 10 times at RG, maybe if he was the same age as him, and 'no' it says (currently) in the record book. Wawa can beat anybody on his day. That day just seems to be on a leap year calendar or something.

Right. We don't know if Stan could have beat Rafa in a French Final or not.

I think age for age, Federer gets one or two off Rafa. Hard to say that when none of their RG matches even went five sets, though.

Well, they did play in the'17 RG final, right ? But yeah, if they play in the final after Rafa has already spent most of energy in the early half, it's possible for Stan to sneak in and steal the title, potentially. SNAS - Sneak Attack By Stan

Right, just pointing out that Stan hasn't beat Rafa at RG so we don't know if he can. We know he can lose to him lol

Its impossible for anyone to be GOAT, two-handed or one-handed.
How do you prove someone is GOAT?
Impossible.

His BH was nothing like Connors other than both were straight up 2HBs. Period.

I saw BB play in person quite a few times sometimes at close range and at multiple events and it never occurred to me until today that anyone thought he hit a 1HB. I read crazy stuff on this site.

I know. Crazy, right.

I'm just going off what they both do with the follow through. The trailing arm comes off the racquet very late and I'm thinking this helped them with recovery from the shot.

I thought 1HBH players have been the GOAT so far always for 50 years - Laver, Sampras and Federer. Looks like it will change in the near future though.

And the goat before Fed, as well. With current conditions/ game, 2hbh is better.
If we have court speed of 90s 1H would be a preffered choice over 2 handeds. Agassi too had a world class Bh but he had won 6 less slams than sampras because of the court conditions.

If Nadal,Djokovic and Federer all played in the 90s Then the 1H would have an added advantage over the other two. I don't think Nadal could even have pushed Federer to the brink outside clay in that era.

2HBH has a distinct advantage over 1H in one category: the serve return. The 3 most famous returners (Connors, Agassi and Djokovic) all have 2H. No 1H player has ever been known as a great returner, in the Open era.

1H makes for better S&V and net game. But S&V is moribund; and net game's importance has declined somewhat!

Of course. Both Pete and Fed (co-OE GOATs) were 1-handers last time I checked. So were Laver (men's) and Navratilova (man or woman).

In fact being a 1-hander ain't no liability. It's a requirement for GOAThood.

I think having another hand probably makes things a bit easier, e.g. for the service ball toss or perhaps for picking up a towel while holding the racket in the other hand. I think I would struggle to play tennis had I just a single hand.

“Roger Federer is arguably the only player in tennis history to have both one of the greatest serves and one of the greatest returns that the game has seen.”
