Is it normal to feel pain after tennis.

I was playing 4 hours of doubles yesterday. Immediately after the doubles i didn't feel anything but maybe a bit of fatigue. Everything was ok until I woke up the next morning, my whole body was in pain.

I'm only 21, is it normal for this kind of thing to happen ?

I see, so it's a problem of not playing enough tennis regularly and let your body adapt slowly ? Or simply put, a matter of conditioning ?

I'm pretty athletic, doing weights and run but to excercise continuously for 4 hours is hardly sth that I did alot in my life.

4 hours of any physical activity is gonna make you sore. Its nothing to worry about it. Just suck it up and move on. If you lift weights you should be used to this feeling if you are not used to feeling tired or sore after lifting pick up bigger weights.

Yep. Soreness is normal. Especially at the feet, ankles, shoulders, chest, back, elbows and wrist. I thought it was a sign of my poor fitness, but other players my level experience the same soreness the day after. Say you played last night, the soreness and pain usually go away in the afternoon.

Consider yourself lucky. Whenever I find myself in a dubs game, it's usually 2 hours of standing around with an occasional volley and a few of my own service games to look forward to.

While tennis can be a component of "being in shape", you would have to play a lot of tennis to really be in shape from tennis alone. And that would have to include some fairly intense hitting sessions and singles.

If you are time stressed (and who isn't) doing even just some pushups, situps, crunches, lunges and jumping rope on a regular basis will get you in better shape for tennis. If you like how you feel, maybe you'll be drawn into a little jogging and some light core and arm exercises: www.asmi.org/SportsMed/media/thrower10.swf

Do a "dynamic warmup" like a little jogging around the court before you play.
After play, you can do your static stretches. (But maybe before those stretches you have time for a little run and workout before hitting the showers?)

It's normal to be sore but feeling pain is not. Soreness that begins the second day after playing indicates extreme exertion, bordering on too much.

you are young, it is being sore. tennis uses more muscles than you know you have.
i am 61 and after a match, i am sore for awhile but it goes away after a few days.
you are young, just warm up before the matches, and you will feel allot better and not near as sore, the more you play.

If you can still get out of bed and get yourself dressed, then yes. Feeling is highly overrated.
