Is Medvedev Really That Good?

He has exceptional control on his groundstrokes, and moves well for such a tall player. What worries me for him is his body type. It doesn't strike me as particularly durable in the GS format. We'll see...
I agree, he’s the same height as Zverev and only slightly heavier. People keep saying a 6’6+ guy is going to dominate the game soon, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

He has the basics. Needs to work on fitness to get to the next level. I'm impressed with the work he has done on his mental game.

He's got a stable game. I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of his, but I like his bashing. Should've won Brisbane too.

Shapovalov, FAA and Tsitsipas appeal more because they are better all-around and agressive players, that's it.

Medvedev is good, great serve, great backhand, good movement and consistency but his net skills and FH are real weaknesses. For me he is more like a Gasquet.

But that should be enough to break into the top 10 this year I think.

To my mind, Gasquet is not only more appealing in tennis terms than Shapovalov but obviously so. I think Shapovalov rather overrated. FAA from what I could tell is a rather defensive player - but, as I said, I've only seen him play once. It could be I will appreciate his style more. Medvedev and Khachanov hit well from the baseline. Both have weaknesses, but I enjoy their style a reasonable amount.

Once again he's in a final of a tournament. He seems to be consistently reaching finals and semi-finals of tournaments. Is he really that good, or is he just getting lucky? What is he doing that other young players need to do?
he can be consistent top 10

Where is the thread "Is Shapovalov really that good?". He also lost in the first round.

Yes, but I think many were thinking Medvedev had something special on clay and expected him to do well. Shapo not so much. I am not surprised by either though.

It was stamina that proved the difference in his match with Djokovic.

His backhand is super compact, ridiculously consistent and powerful!

Very regimental game. Reminds me of Seppi.

Close to top 5 level. Hugely impressive player.

well done, you are one of the few around here who saw it coming.

He is. Great not good.

Confidence and a varied game are his weapons.

That and surprise.

And the Russian Inquisition. Once he starts torturing his opponent he just gets more and more savage.

Dare I say that he is not even a natural ball striker like Novak and Federer..

Even in the rallies he just plays along and then makes the killer shot..over the years he will have to cut down this strategy otherwise he will get tired against a naturally aggressive ATG.Or maybe not? He has a killer serve..

Novak at his best physically will mop the floor with him.His naturally explosive groundstrokes will just kill him.Not a jingoistic and fan boyish comment but it is what it is..

Even Federer at his best will kill him moving him side to side..

Very good intelligence, use of drop shots, pure ballbashing, great serve are what works in his favor..

We are loosely using the term great..Great servers according to me are Sampras,Federer,Becker and not Isner,Karlovic..The former category have great ball sense and serve sense, the latter have just advantages because of height..

But Novak and Roger have unfortunately declined and atleast Novak is not physically the same 4,5 years ago..So Med can prosper now, no doubt and he is obviously a very good player to make it count..
