Is QEII now the G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time)?

Exactly right, well done. Being a bit of a history nerd, here are their respective lines of descent:

Queen Victoria of the UK - Edward VII of the UK - George V of the UK - George VI of the UK - Elizabeth II of the UK.

Queen Victoria of the UK - Princess Alice of the UK - Princess Victoria of Hesse - Princess Alice of Battenberg - Duke of Edinburgh.

Christian IX of Denmark - Princess Alexandra of Denmark - George V of the UK - George VI of the UK - Elizabeth II of the UK.

Christian IX of Denmark - George I of Greece - Prince Andrew of Greece - Duke of Edinburgh.

Have you ever considered a career in geology?

The salt generated from this post alone, could be quite instructive to researchers in the field.

I’m devastated. We resisted being a British colony in 1806 and 1807. And we succeeded!
In the end, maybe we didn’t even qualify to be a British colony.

Which country is that? Argentina?

As far as I was aware, Britain wasn't attempting to colonise any country in South America (excluding Guyana).

The early 19th-century was when many Latin American nations broke away from colonial control.

It was the Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata (Spanish colony), greater part of which later became Argentina. Britain wanted to control/annex it.
This was some years before Latin American nations gained independence from Spain.

Thanks for the info. I have to admit that my knowledge of that period of history has grown hazy over time.

I wasn't aware that the UK was actively trying to colonise parts of South America at that time.

I know that Britain had a lot of "soft power" over many Latin American nations in the 19th-century, in terms of trade, cargo, building railways, etc.

Yes, though Spain had the formal power on the Rio de la Plata, starting the XIX century Britain began to build the most important of all: the economic influence.
Buenos Aires imported manufactured goods from Britain (after the Industrial Revolution), most of them via contraband, as Spain did not formally allow their colonies to trade with other countries.

Predicting that the crypt keeper would kick the bucket. Such a psychic.

It's extraordinary, isn't it?

I really nailed it down with my original ambiguous comment.

Who could have possibly predicted that there would be a major event surrounding a 99-year-old public figure?

I'm a veritable soothsayer, and it's starting to scare me.

It's cute when folks first realize that the Royal Family is not some kind of quaint cutesy institution to be loved and admired, and that they are in fact an incestuous European tyrannical death cult spanning centuries of oppression, persecution, pedophilia, and genocide.

It's "cuter" when people think that irrelevant things like this are important.

If the UK became a republic tomorrow, then that would literally have zero impact on the lives of Her GOATjesty's "subjects".

"Incestuous" is a pretty cheap and lazy shot. **** sapiens generally operate in bands of 50-200 people in our "natural" form, so it doesn't take a maths genius to work out that there's going to be some 'incest" going on there.

In British history, yes and perhaps her reign will be the longest in European history, but the world record among sovereign rulers is held by Jangsu of Goguryeo, the king of the ancient Kingdom of Korea, who ruled for 78 years. ;)

And what is that Korean bloke's reputation and legacy?

An obscure footnote in history.

Queen Elizabeth II is arguably the most famous person in history.

When Her GOATjesty eventually transcends to the realm of cherubs and seraphims, then that will be a hugely important event in world history.

She's a better ride than the Titanic.

QE2 vs Titanic

Queen Elizabeth 2, often referred to simply as QE2, is a retired British ocean liner converted into a floating hotel. Originally built for the Cunard Line, Queen Elizabeth 2 was operated by Cunard as both a transatlantic liner and a cruise ship from 1969 to 2008. She was then laid up until converted and since 18 April 2018 has been operating as a floating hotel in Dubai.

RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner operated by the White Star Line that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912, after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City.

Your contemptuous remarks indicate that you don't know about him. If you read about him, you would be learn that in his time he ruled one of the greatest powers in East Asia. He had such power, about what Elizabeth II. can only dream of. :happydevil:

I had no intention to be "contemptuous", so I apologise if I came across that way.

If you need a wiki article to show how "influential" a historic figure was, then that person isn't probably that "influential" in the modern era.

QEII is probably the most famous person in the world.

The problem is that you call QEII as GOAT, but you are only interested in modern times. GOAT covers the whole of history. If you want to call QEII. as the greatest ruler, you must add the suffix "in the modern era". Definitely don't use the abbreviation GOAT, because in this sphere there is strong competition.

I didn't mean to denigrate the guy. But his domain was just Korea and other regions which had no impact elsewhere.

The Monarchy is the lynchpin of English nationalism and the remains of the British empire, as you've just demonstrated, and that is already an essential political role.

We could also talk of the world rulers who left the biggest footprints on Earth.
The Pharaoh Cheops (Khufu) left the tallest (but not the largest(*) pyramid) pyramid.
Emperor Qin Shi Huang built the Chinese Wall.

(*): The Quetzalcóatl Pyramid is the largest pyramid, and the largest monument ever constructed.
It is at Cholula de Rivadavia, 101 km (63 miles) south-east of Mexico City. It is 54 m (177 ft) tall, and its base covers an area of nearly 18.2 ha (45 acres).
