Karu who is a more accomplished player (and coach?), uses football to develop serves!

So if throwing a football helps the serve, what helps me throw a football? Do I need to see a QB coach? And if I can't throw a football does that mean I can never serve?

What helps? Not being a smart a.. about it might, haha!

Just trying to lighten the mood. But honestly, watching people throw a football is a good guide to whether they can serve at all. I'm not sure doing it would actually improve a serve.

We all know that some people have a very poor throwing motion hence a bad serve too
You probably have experimented already but if not I’d suggest you try to serve with your nondominant hand. When I tried I thought to myself this is just impossible to do or improve in any way. Wondering if the case is that bad for folks who somehow can’t throw or serve properly with their dominant hand?

With what I've seen with some unathletic folks, yes, I believe learning tennis for them is very similar to the rest of us learning to play with our non-dominant hand.

That being said, when I had shoulder surgery I learned to toss a perfect spiral with my left arm about 20 yards over 6 weeks. It almost started to feel natural.

Absolutely - in fact, you don't even need a football - just use tennis balls. I regularly throw tennis balls to warm up and work on "effortless" throwing muscle memory - it helps a great deal.
I used throwing tennis balls as a guide to build muscle memory to hit deuce court wide serves - tennis ball throw detects shallow "racket drop" and improper body positioning without even lifting the racket.

but tennis balls don't teach the wrist version of the catapult (called pronation) as well as the football Imo. Also the football weight is helpful

I just use thumb and index finger to grip the ball to simulate holding the racket. Does it help? I bet you know "million" times more than I do.

I would like to see a video where people throw american football, and then throw racquet and do the exact same motion for serve and we can compare if they are the same in the same vid. of course, any normal joe wouldn't work. it has to be kurue sell or his ATP friend like fritz. :p
