Is there anywhere we can watch the FO Men's Semis Live on Friday?

Im glad tennis channel stepped up for us and will be broadcasting the first semi. NBC has clowned tennis fans for years and while they may have made a small stride with the "live streaming", Im sure they expected fans worldwide to acquiesce the unacceptable tape delays and didn't really think much about it before the sh#t hit the fan online/in the blogosphere. Hopefully (fingers crossed) the Wimbledon coverage will be sorted out as well...

NBC will add live Internet streaming to its broadcast of the men’s French Open semifinals this Friday for the first time, according to a network spokesman.

The move follows complaints in recent years from tennis fans who could only see tape-delayed tennis following the network’s Today Show, depending on the length of the matches and the time zone.

This year, Tennis Channel will broadcast the first semifinal between defending champion Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, which begins at 8 a.m. ET. NBC will broadcast the second men’s semifinal—between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic—in its entirety on NBCSports.com, according to Adam Freifeld, a network spokesman. The network will begin its television coverage at 11 a.m. in all time zones, after the Today Show, Freifeld said.
So I guess starting this thread to complain again this year finally paid off! Looks like we collectively guilt NBC into changing their awful ways. :)

Still would have been better if they just pre-empted The Today Show and showed both men's semis live on TV, but I guess this is a start. For people on the West Coast, we will still have to switch from Tennis Channel to NBC's Internet stream at 8am PST (11am EST) to watch the rest of the Nadal-Murray (because when have you known a Nadal match at the FO to finish under 3 hours? ), and then to watch the Federer-Djokovic match live. Because by the time NBC shows the 2nd semi on TV here on the West Coast at 11am PST, it'll probably already be over due to the 3 hour TV blackout we're subjected to here on the West Coast from 8am to 11am PST. :( People on the East Coast, however, should be able to just seamlessly switch from TC to NBC TV at 11am EST.

yeah, it seems nbc is still hedging in that if first semi ends in 2 hours or so and the second starts tc can't cover it so you have to go to stream...hopefully nbc's stream is good...also worried about the 11 o'clock transition from tc to nbc...could miss a big point from first semi...maybe my vile e-mail to nbc made a difference

Not everyone has Tennis Channel....here we have 2 great semi-final mens matches and NBC is only covering the 2nd match - and only for 3 hours. The match could last 4-5 hours if it goes 5 sets.....so most likely they will cut off the coverage of the match to show some non-significant programming. It's a travesty. I was looking forward to the Nadal match - which I can't even watch....no coverage since I don't get Tennis Channel....and I"m at work so can't watch the "streams".
Yeah, probably something mission-critical like the soap operas. :???:

On the West Coast, since the 2nd semi will be shown on tape delay on NBC TV, they will likely even edit it to cut it down to fit the match into their 3 hour broadcast window. :?

Hopefully TC does what they did last weekend, and stream it online for free, as many people don't have the tennis channel. This is better than before, but like all of us, I wish they'd just show it live. Let the housewives of America find something else today with their mornings

BTW thanks to the people here who called or tweeted or emailed NBC to do something about this. Job well done!

thanks for the information! don't know if my annual complaint worked, but I sure blasted NBC good on twitter. good to know some of these efforts finally worked. there's just no excuse not to air any sporting events live. if you don't want to do it, then let somebody else do it. it's as simple as that.

Will it be shown anywhere else on TV beside the TTC?
I don't believe so. The only chance is that it's rain delayed and the latter part of the match ends up on NBC's live broadcast window starting at 11am EST, but that's only on the East Coast. On the West Coast, NBC TV will not be showing ANY live tennis at all. :(

Well, at least we can watch it in HD on TTC Internet stream :)

I guess that NBC won't show the second semi live PT time. They'll show it live on the east coast but at 11am and are planning to run a replay at 11am (3 hours later) on the west coast (PT). I was wondering if the match goes over 3 hours, which I hope it will, will NBC show the end of it during the time which was scheduled to show the replay?

I think NBC is counting on Fed finishing off the Djoke in less than 3 hours - which might happen..

The internet streams arent hd. in fact, i believe they are only 480p from what I've watched, and I have excellent bandwidth.

So, the players say HD on them and the stream is introduced as HD... but they aren't HD?

Just a heads up. Don't expect NBC's stream to have very good quality. I just checked there horrendous two point highlights of matches, and the player on the bottom half of the court is cut off at the baseline! The video is also really blurry even when the quality is at, "HD".

I wish NBC televised both matches....I wanted to see Nadal's match. Tennis Channel is not available to everyone. What a travesty....and these "streams" are ridiculous - this should be televised start to finish by a channel who has a vested interest in tennis - which NBC obviously does not.

Not nearly the same as watching it on a big flat panel HDTV. :(

Besides, are you positive that TTC will be streaming the semis? It wasn't on their original schedule, I don't think.

All this tape delay crap is confusing me. If I live on Guam(GMT+10), does that mean I'd watch the second semi at 1:00am(saturday) on NBC in approximately nine or so hours, or just 11 am saturday tape delay?
