It looks like Rafael Nadal will have the last laugh over Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer

Stars has aligned in Nadal's favor :happydevil:

Federer couldn't win many slams in 2010s due to Novak and now Novak is out due to his own stupidity.

This has opened the road for an Aus Open win for Nadal in 2022 .... who would have thought this would ever happen ?

With AO 22 and FO 22 Nadal will move onto 22 slams.

When Novak returns at Wimbledon then he will still be the favorite but anything can happen, lot of pressure on him to take number 21.

Then the USO which has been a good slam for youngsters in recent times

Then in 2023 again he is banned from Australia

French Open 2023 coming again and he will be 36 then

Nadal will have the last laugh over Djokovic and Federer by ending up with more slams than them :cautious:

It would be so epic if it happened.

Djokovic has to summon some inner anger in him and conjure another dream run of 3-4 slams at an 18 months stretch .... he has dug a deep hole for him.

Chill. No one's crossing 20.
Nadal is not going beat Sascha or Med here. And this French belongs to Tsitsipas. Djokovic isn't going to cross 20, either.

You wish this was the case.

However someone will cross 20, that much is certain.

Nd sorry to say, it won't be Roger, that much we know at this point.

I'm not convinced. He's not won a slam since late 2020. I'll be convinced if he beats Zverev who despite not beating a top tenner at a slam is one of the top 3 hardcourt players right now.

Khach had absolutely no control,
All on Nadal's racquet all the way,
Even in the 3rd Set Khach only won because Nadal stopped attacking,
Then Nadal goes back into the zone and destroys Khach in the 4th Set,
Absolute demolition job!

I am not saying Nadal won't win AO, but watching his opening matches to this point, he looks like he doesn't have his normal full match confidence as he usually does. Or maybe just part of having to adjust play overall because of injuries and aging. Much of the Nadal experience and success was predicated on being a grinder for every ball and making everyone play just one more, and one more, and one more. He simply has to let some balls go anymore so score lines tend to be closer, so any little blip in confidence or focus and he could find himself out.

We will see. I like his chances still.

Well I'd say Nadal is like a 90% lock for FO and I'd say that even if Djokovic were confirmed to play at the FO, I mean it took Djokovic a monumental effort to defeat Nadal in 4 sets lasting 4 and a half hours and Nadal was injured in that match as proven by his foot and taking 6 months off right after that match, I don't see Djokovic pulling off a win over Nadal at FO if Nadal is healthy, Nadal definitely still has a chance to take US OPEN but I feel his chances at AO and WIMBY are slim, iff Nadal wins 2 more slams in the next year or 2 then Djokovic would need 3 more slams and he may miss 2/4 or even 3/4 slams this year, we're talking Djokovic having to win 3 slams at the age of 35, 36, 37 and that's assuming he is able to play most of the slams over the next few years, I'd be worried most about how his scheduling and matchplay with be greatly affected by vaccination rules, as in even if he plays a few slams this year will he even be match ready

Well its true that he didn't look like a grinder today, he looked like the most powerful player in the AO, certainly more powerful than Zverev and Medvedev.
When Nadal was a grinder, in 2005-2008 he got destroyed at the AO, and very nearly lost to Verdasco at 2009 AO.
I definitely prefer today's Nadal over the 2009 Nadal..... because Nadal lacked aggression in 2009, and it destroyed his body.

One thing I do like is all the attention Nadal is getting this year. It's nice not having Federer and Djokovic there. With Nadal in the spotlight, there's a nice, chilled narrative which is very celebratory of Nadal as a leader without all the gushing you get with Federer and the polarization that comes with Djokovic.

He certainly has built his match confidence quickly for this AO and looked good against Karen. I think some of that is that he has also been able to take early leads/sets. It will be curious to see how he reacts if he gets down quick or loses a first set. He is, after all, one of the greatest competitors to me so that might not make a difference and he could very well just run off the next three sets, but I just like to see if and how things change as we get into more twilight years for these guys.

Carrotserve looks like he's going to keel over, although he'll probably beat Marinara, its hard to imagine Carrot beating Nadal.
