It looks like today's BOYS play better tennis than today's pros

I was watching tennis videos on Youtube and somehow stumbled upon this one, the Wimbledon 2011 Boys Championship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJN0XoQPOls.

They're playing better tennis than we see from the current crop of pros. Look, they're sneaking into the net, going for winners, trying to gain the offensive spot in points, and in general playing all-court, aggressive tennis. I'll probably watch the boys from now on. You guys can go ahead and have fun watching another "epic" 6-hour "rivalry" final between Djokovic and Nadal this Australian Open.

That was 2.5 years ago. How have these two done on the pro tour?

My points wasn't about their results. My point was about their playing style and how entertaining they are to watch. I'm a spectator. I want to see players dive. I want to see slam-dunk overheads. I want to see slice approach shots. I want to see all-or-nothing forehands hit on the run.

Whenever two people of similar ability play one another, it's pretty entertaining - regardless of their level. However, if you stick one of these two up against a top 100 pro, they'd probably look pretty silly. It's all relative.

Yup, those boys remind me of Safin. Safin was a very entertaining player, although I never bothered watching his matches that didn't have Federer.

@SafinIsGOAT (what a nickname :lol: )

Luke Saville is currently number 445 in the world, lost a final just today against Japanese Uchiyama ranked number 335

Liam Broady is currently ranked 518, lost his last match one week ago against Cacic ranked 719

Are you trolling on purpose, or is it not deliberate ? :)

By the way, if you watch the full highlights you just posted, that was some serious choking from the British man, he was 1 set up and a break in the second

There's nothing here to suggest these boys will grow up to challenge the (real) top 4 any time soon.

Nothing to see here, move along.

They don't play better tennis; they play more exciting tennis, but not better.

I think it is pretty obvious that the OP is using "better" to mean "more exciting." As in "better (to watch)".

Not talking about you Maxim, but but some of the repliers in this thread are needlessly dismissive.

Agree that it was a thoroughly entertaining match, regardless of whether these boys will go on to be top players. Thanks for posting OP! :)

Just like Santoro played better tennis than Safin...

Saville is no. 445 and Broady is no. 518 in the rankings. They are both 19 yo. By that age, Tomic was inside top 100 and look where he is now.

Shows the depth of men's tennis. In that video, it appears either guy could challenge a top player. The reality is much different, however. You always look better when playing someone of similar ability.
