London, Dec.6 : Former tennis champion John McEnroe is ready to end his career in the sport.

The "Super Brat", who will be 50 in February, has one more match booked in Rio a month after his birthday.

Mac, a star on the senior circuit, said: "I don't want to put myself in situations where it wouldn't be fun.

"I'm not feeling amazing about turning 50. I've had problems with my arm which I never had before," the Sun quoted him, as saying.

I dont remember the interview being that clear cut and you should never trust the sun for a report, be a shame if he did though.

Yes, the first sentence of the article does not seem to be substantiated by what is in there later :)

But I do believe Mac has said elsewhere that this is his last year on the senior circuit.

When he lost to Pete and Cedric it seemed like he was playing well but still loosing, can't imagine he'll want it to continue unless he believes he can improve and stay competitive.

he was just interviewed after his blackrock masters match against jeremy bates (which he lost). he didnt say for sure he was going to retire, just not to expect him to be playing much. he did say though that he would be back at the albert hall again sometime

He needs to just be in show business. Amazing player, now and always, but it's just really sad that he has to act out so much on the senior tour. Tarnishes his legacy.

Dude just wants to act and share his love for tennis. Acting and working in the booth...for many years.

My memories of him playing tennis are all good....no need for him to still play and tarnish any of that.

Bates played well, Mac should not be embarrassed, Bates should be delighted.

Bates deserved his victory by all means.

McEnroe had a major go at one of the line judges anyone know what he said?
I thought that was bang out of order and to be honest, disgusted at his behaviour.

It's kinda like watching Jagger and the Stones: one of a kind, entertaining in an edgy sort of way. Neither ever seem to get full satisfaction from their craft, and perhaps that is why Mac has decide to move on...

Mac cursed himself after missing a shot and the judge ran up to tell the umpire who then issued Mac a code violation for an obscenity. That's what he went off on, calling the judge a fat loser or something like that.

Mac had a fine year on the senior tour this year winning a title in Europe and two on the Outback. He's certainly playing well enough to keep going. I think he needs to cut down on his schedule. He plays too many events, more so on the Outback tour. That combined w/his commentating and other media work plus the gym training that he does to stay in great shape for a guy his age has probably started to wear him down.

If he played half of what he plays now he might end up winning more matches and possibly more events. But he's getting older and with the new crop of players like Sampras, Edberg, Rafter, etc. who are starting to show up it's harder for him to compete.

ummm...the few clips of Mac that's repeated played are him screaming at the umps..just saw it again this wimbledon. i think his legacy is going to be one of an entertainer in tennis, made it interesting to watch that's for sure, and funny commercials now too. "HEY THAT'S MY CAR!!"

Mac lost to Jeremy Bates! Ouch!

Bates's highest rank was 54. Mac must be embarassed.

The past doesn't necessarily determine the present. JMac was the better player then, but it doesn't mean that Bates is the worse player now.

Bates even gave Sampras a run for his money.

Same goes for Pioline.

0-9 on the tour including 2 GS final losses with the last time Sampras played him being nine years ago, on the day (today), Pioline was the better player to win.

they don't show mcenroe matches on tv anyway, so it's the same to tennis fans whether he retires or continues on.

I see him often in senior tourneys on tennis channel. Just last week, he defeated Todd Martin in the final in Surprize, AZ. The ball was moving upto 10 feet in the wind!

I was at the match at the Royal Albert Hall. Mac made it pretty clear that he wasn't going to be a regular participant on the Seniors tour. His 4 championship victories are some way back now and this year he lost all three of his matches. He manages to stop his game from deteriorating but his victories are from a time when other former players did not care much about the senior tour and didn't put it in the regular effort as Mac did. Now that the next cohort has reached the age to play on the seniors tour, Mac is facing essentially what he faced on the ATP tour: his competitors are getting better. he deserves some credit for elevating the seniors tour, that is why the others are probably working out more to be able to stay in the game. But his time is past. And all his court antics are frankly ridiculous. Best for him to move on and out of the court. I was a bit sorry when I realized that my tickets were for a McEnroe match rather than the Sampras one.
