K90 users with a double handed backhand

With the handle being noticably shorter compared to other rackets on the market, I was wondering whether is enough space for two hands at once on the handle (does it make this stroke feel impeded / unatural in any way).

Feedback from people who are playing with / have tested the K90 and play with a double handed backhand would be greatly appreciated.

Yea, was wierd at first comming from the N90, and I thought I was going to have to have custom handles molded. But I got used to it. Just wrap my grip all the way up to the throat.

J

I actually tend to prefer the shorter pallet. The index finger of my left hand falls just above the grip tape. It gives me a good reference frame for the grip and I feel it helps me to keep my top hand loose.

I think that the MG Extreme pro is a little strange for 2 handers.

Jolly- didn't you post some pics of your K90s once before - I'd love to see them again.

Why would I? I play just fine with the K no need to go changing things. I don't see any reason for me to switch until 2010 or so which is about when I will wear out the 24 or so K90s I will have in circulation.

true but what if the sampras racket is better in some way? which i find is pretty hard to do since the k90 is such and awesome racket

Then good for the sampras racquet, I am not looking for the absolute best racquet for my game, just something I can play well with so that I can get to work on making myself a better player.

I wouldn't have switched to the K if I had a fresh supply of Ncodes.

I can't play with Wilson racquets for that exact reason, their grips are way too short for my two handed strokes. That's why I play with Yonex - their grips are long and have plenty of room for two hands.

I changed out the leather grip for the Kgrip + Pro Overgrip and extended it closer to the throat. My 2hbh is a much better shot. My previous racquets are a Pure Drive, Aeropro, Prince Diablo. I was looking for a racquet with more stability to help cure my shanks. It also took 12 weeks of work with a coach and a ball machine to hone my 2hbh. So it's all about customization first til you say you can't play with the K90.

out of sincere curiosity, how do you wear out 24 rackets in a couple of years??

I play a lot, and restring a lot, and hit a pretty big ball. Stringing tightly, with poly, also contributes because the strings don't absorb as much of the impact, and it goes straight to the frame.

I had 17 N90s and pretty much used them up (broke or wore out) in I guess a bit over 2 years.

Switched to the K on 1/1/08 and have broken 3 or 4 so far (not through breaking in anger just wore out and broke).

I have a little book and I keep track of how many times I string each frame so that they wear evenly.

I have 16 in rotation now, and 3 brand new backup ones. I will probably get 6 more in June or so and have that 9 done so I will probably make it past my orig estimation of 1/1/2010. If that 9 will let me get another year out of the frames, then I will be set.

But I have found that I average about a racquet a month over the course of a year. So if I play with 3 racquets in a rotation, they wear out in 3 months, if I play with 12 in a rotation they last a year.

Ya but remember in the summer months it is not unheard of for me to go through 5-6 ALU stringjobs in a week.

i use a 2hbh..its not that bad, but it does take time to get used to...i think this stick is actually better for my backhand style...I have a similar style, on the bh, like ferrer where he releases his left hand right after impact, except i release on impact.

The K90 is not designed for players who use a 2 handed backhand. That's the main reason why I had to sell my K90's is due to a weaker backhand compared to other racquets with a larger head size. Most players who use a 2 handed backhand tend to use mid plus racquets for obvious reasons.

Oh? How would you know this? Just because it's flagship user doesn't hit a two-hander doesn't mean sh*t. A ton of players with two-handed backhands use frames built off the PT600, 630, and 660 molds, and almost anyone using a PJ of the latest Prestige (besides Simon) is using a mid, which is a 89sq headsize.

Hey!

You were there on the other end of my BH.

Did it seem like I had any problems?

You almost killed a dude at net on a return, so, no, there were no problems. It looked a bit unorthodox, but it was powerful as hell, which makes up for it!

lol, most folks play 2 back when I serve or return. I didn't really start to feel warmed up until the put me on that other court with the 2nd group of good guys. Then I started to get loose.

And by the time we hit singles I was ready for action lol.

I play a two-hander using the POG Mid, and I'm pretty sure it has an even shorter grip than the K90. Anyway, whenever I've hit with the K90, I thought it hit a very solid ball with the two-hander. I could drive it nicely. And like someone else said, it's kind of nice that it's a bit short; I like how my top finger wraps around the top part, near the tape, even a little on the frame.

You killed me in singles :( I went 1 for 3 in those tiebreaks the 4 of us played. Got absolutely killed by you, and lost to the other dude with the K90, but beat Dr. W (the dude with the APDC). Not a good record.

The dude with the APDC was a good player!

I was his partner in the good dubs match, and he was returning like a champion. He hit some great volleys too, so that was a good win for you.

Guy was a pleasure to play dubs with as a partner, I would be pretty happy you beat him.

His son is even better . But all you had to do was move him around and don't let him hit a good shot. I was serving like a champion for when we played singles (including the one ace I threw by you!) and I guess that's what carried me through the match with him. The other dude that used a K90 was damn good too, his backhand was a bit weak for such a flat shot but his forehand was pretty damn good. He was a bit weak off the second serve, but would kill me if I didn't put all of his second serves away (which he did), but he was a great returner and a nice guy to boot. That was a fun hour or so of singles.

Almost identical.

Just a quick pic from the J-Rog secret stash.

Yeah it was during the first round of matches when you and I played and the two other guys were playing. Usually, my serve isn't as good as it was that night. I can usually hit it faster, but not as accurate as I was. My second serve (or complete lack thereof) was decent for once. Go figure!

It gets expensive, even though I get stringing done cheaply. I plan to play a lot of tourneys this year, and quite frankly am unsure how I am going to be able to afford it. I try to cut back on unneccesary expenses, while still living a fairly comfortable life.

I may have to do some side work coaching or teaching part time to help pay for my tournament expenses.

Still, it is much cheaper than having a kid :)

MOST people will not like the K90 for 2hbh. there are a few exceptions, but they are rare. Just go to your local tournaments and look.
