What do you think happened to him?Anyone who what happened to him?
I see a lot of folks reaching out to him with well wishes on social media
I hope nothing terribly serious but the messages don’t make it seem like something minor...
What do you think happened to him?
Well UCLA and USC got postponed for a “personal reason”.
I've got an idea, but since it's not out there publicly and don't know will reserve my thoughts. Best wishes to him.yep, it’s hard to imagine why people are being so secretive
Ive been Wondering this as well. Noticed he's been missing from the lineup for the past few games. Today his teammate Drew Baird posted on instagram a photo where he has his name written on the back of his jersey. Ive asked (left instagram comments) a few people but no one has responded? Very strange to say the least. Hopefully he is doing well. Its a Shame because he was having a great season.
Tested positive for covid-19?
Oh no! Hope he recovers quickly.Word is he suffered a pretty serious head injury. But he is now out of Intensive Care and doing better. Really bad luck for a good kid.
Yeah, hit by a car while riding his skateboard back to his apartment.Skateboard accident according to twitter. Fractured his skull but is expected to make a full recovery.
very sad, hope he makes a full recovery
It was interesting that the ZooTennis story phrased it "he ran into a car." Not sure what the details really are.Another reason why humans should never be allowed to drive cars. Hope for 100% Level 5 autonomous driving soon. This kind of thing makes me very angry.

He was riding his skateboard, which hit something on the ground (maybe a crack on the sidewalk) and propelled him into the car.
Why would they not be willing to talk about a car hitting him?
Admittedly not the most important thing right now as he gets better, but I’m amazed a high profile D1 athlete was skateboarding around unhelmeted (I’m assuming given the skull injury) during the seasonProbably because they're planning to sue the crack in the pavement.

You can't sue the crack in the pavement, not possible with the law.
I keep you out of my ignore list for pearls like that.

You can't sue the crack in the pavement, not possible with the law. If the pavement maintenance is reponsibility of Cal bears, then you can sue Cal university. But if the pavement is responsibility of the city then you have to sue the city, but it is much more difficult to sue the city, almost impossible for something like this. If there was clear gross negligence on maintanance of the pavement, it is easier but if it is iffy or borderline kind of thing, it will be very difficult either way.
If i was Cal bears and they were responsible for this accident in some way, i would just pay off Keegan with $5 million dollars and hope he makes full recovery and his professional career isn't damaged in any way.
yea but what about the guy in the bicycle ? he didn't have a airbag to save himRegardless of whether it is the driver's fault or not, automation will help lessen injuries in any accident. I was rear-ended once and crashed into a median wall. The police told me I was still alive because of the airbag.
Right. Government cannot be held liable for things like cracks in the pavement unless criminal negligence is proved. There is a reason to that: allowing such lawsuits would mean government just cannot function even in the best of conditions, and certainly not when funding is limited.
Did you know that if a military plane crashes into your home, it is up to the military to pay any damages or not? They generally do due to social pressure, but they don't have to.
If everyone in the home is dead and buring to crisp, who's left to sue the military ?

Wait, humans shouldn't drive cars? Who should drive them then?
Computers. I’m a software engineer at a self-driving car company so I know quite a bit about this area.

It has worked out well with seatbelts, vaccines, smoking restrictions, and other safety measures in practically every aspect of life.
Meh. Speed limits, seatbelts, smoking restrictions, etc...you are comparing apples and oranges. They don't run on computers that are set up to track you.Speed limits... these tinfoil libertarians are such a joke.

So, is the airbag chip reporting on your movements?Airbag logic runs on a computer (in the chip). Speed limits are enforced by radar which identifies your plate. You think there is stuff today without computers in it?
So, is the airbag chip reporting on your movements?
My point is that jhick was objecting to computers that track you, and you responded with the beneficial airbags computer chip example. But those chips don't track you, so they are irrelevant to his point.I don't know what you are talking about. I am talking about more automation to prevent or minimize the dangers of driving. I am sick of personal and anecdotal stories of peoples' lives ruined by human error or just plain arrogance when driving, while you go on some tangential thread. It is true that every computer can be hacked and used for surveillance or for causing dysfunction - the minimization of that risk is all you can hope for. In a case such as this, everybody would have come to know where the accident occurred and who was driving, just like in the days of no automation, so I don't see your point at all.
