@GSG would have to put in some extra prep work on the treadmill. We have to take into account that most WTA players hate playing against slice, so we shouldn’t underestimate his chances.

I am working on my Covid-fearful wife to allow me to take plane rides, so that I can resume my TT tour schedule. MEP is on my short list.Who would win between @travlerajm , Kenin and MEP in a round robin tournament
I am still riding a high from earning a spot on the 2019 All-TTW 4.5 first-team roster with my almost-5.0 dynamic rating, so I expect I would go in as slight favorite against MEP. But he has swagger, so I would need to prepare seriously.
Kenin would destroy me, especially because I would be too distracted between points to bring my A game focus.

Her Return of serves today clocked about 8 mph faster than her opponent today. I don't think that is moonballing

She does lob some balls on occasion. But ALL you USTA players 4.5 and down can learn tons from her baseline stretegies. Type of low shots and high shots she mixes up just at the right occasions. Using deep balls then short balls in angles to manuver opponents out of position and going for the kill. Her father must be master tactician or learned by watching videos of Hingis 24/7.

And all you USTA 4.5 guys, don't say you just go out there and over-power your opponents or don't need this kind of variety mixing up shots. That is BS. I played plenty of 4.5 singles in the past(albeit just doubles now due to past injuries) and this kind of stretegy can work like any 80 MPH groundies or 90 + MPH serves in beating any 4.5 players.

Isn't Djokovic doing the same thing with his continuous use of the drop shot on the men's side? (as well as Hugo Gaston)
Most ATP players are confused on what to do and miss so many balls when they are faced with these drop shots.
So unfortunately most players on both tours are one-trick pony bashers, not only the WTA.

You're kidding, right? There's an eleven year old girl at our club who competes closely against 5.0 men. **Eleven**. No 4.5, who would be at best a UTR 9, has any chance against any WTA pro who would be a UTR 12 to 13.

Actually didn't notice many Moonballs from her. What I did notice is that she has mastered the disguised drop shot. A thing of beauty.

Kenin's game is fun to watch. She moves her opponent around, hits angles, uses droppers and lobs and comes to the net to finish points. She doesn't have a lot of natural power so has to play this way but she does so extremely well. And she's a fighter. I'm so glad we are well past the days of Safina, Jankovic, Ivanonic when top players had mental breakdowns on court on a regular basis.

She is full of energy, you can see that she is hard thinker - when things don't go her way she is able to think what went wrong and adjust and the attitude is just infectious ... moving about the court like that, with the purpose ... Love it !
But ... you still have to be physically strong and modern game tends to favor big, strong players ... I wish her well it is refreshing to see player like her competing as hard and having success !!!
And I am 100% sure that she is a very good chess player ...

Good on her. Given the bookies give her worse odds than Swiatek, it would appear they listened to all the TT Gauffers who said Kenin winning a slam is nothing special. So I hope she wins this one too so more detractors get egg on their face.

If Kenin was moonballing, it was intentional and with purpose. She’s a smart tennis player that knows how win matches. She also knows how to hit the cover off of a tennis ball too, I love watching her play. She walks around the court like it’s her house and how dare you come in and try to take anything away from me.

She is 100% unlikeable on the court. Her and Collins are terrible. Most charismatic. More like the most agitated and frustrated when she is losing.
She has no shot that is overpowering , no weapon at all. Simply another Wozniacki but in a far weaker era.

I think you misread my post. I said you have to admire her desire to do whatever it takes to win. I never said anything about admiring that style of play.
Too many players get caught up in this image of playing a certain style and making the highlight reel. Kenin has shown she has an 'A', 'B', and 'C' game, and is willing to employ all of them within a match if that is what it takes to win. The concept of 'unwritten rules' is complete BS. There is nothing in the rule book saying drop shots, moon balls, underhand serves, etc. are against rules, and if they fluster your opponent, why not use them?
Now, will I watch a match like that? Most likely not. But in the end she's moving on to the next round, and her opponent is going home. Mission accomplished.
