Khachanov needs to save us from Z.

Especially because I have a gut feeling this Olympics gold might push him into winning slams and dominating the tour.

If Z wins Olympic gold, I forsee tough times for ABZ.

We believe in Karen! Save_us_Khachanov.

After glancing at a list of gold medalist in men's singles since 1988, I really don't see any correlation between winning gold and winning slams. There's been 7 winners total. 4 have won slams and 3 haven't. It seems pretty random and not a good predictor of slam success
Murry 2012 broke through in Olympics

Jeez you want Djokodal to keep winning majors until they are 50 years old?

That would be pretty cool if they did. :p Don't you think? It would also make us question the whole of human biology and sports science if they could win a major at that age.

I don't know. I'm generally ABZ (despite being German), so I should root for Khachanov. But I'm not unfair, and after yesterday Zverev deserves it more.

Some ABZ people may think as long as Zverev doesn't win a Slam, it's not so bad. But Zverev explicitly said the Olympics is the outright biggest title to win, even in tennis. He said that to German media in the beginning stages of the tournament, not just now and in an opportunistic way.

The Olympics is viewed by some players, such as Zed, to be more important because it is watched by a billion people and it is hyped and celebrated by the general public. Even by those that never watch tennis

He is certainly entitled to his view but all informed people agree that the Olympic player field is weaker than the Wimbledon field. Let's not pretend that winning Olympics and Wimbledon are equally difficult athletic achievements.

I meant if it’s the biggest for him, then from his point of view he has won “everything” and will feel and brag accordingly.

He will brag because the general public elevates the Olympics and gives more attention to a medal winner than a Slam winner. It is not clear how he personally feels.

What did he say? If he wins Gold and nothing else in his life that would be as good as winning one Slam and no Gold?

The German commentator of an early round Zverev match said that before the tournament Zverev told him that the Olympics is the outright biggest title to win, even in tennis. Not just “like a Slam”, but outright bigger.

I wouldn’t believe him if it was an opportunistic statement now before the final when he’s already so close. But since this was being said at the start I believe him that this is his biggest Goal.

Zverev deserves to and probably will win it, but I think I may be team Karen for this one. Especially after that disgusting question Daniil got during the press conference. Russia already got gold and silver from mixed doubles and winning in singles would give that extra bit of trolling we all need.

If we are relying on KK, well there is only so much pity the tennis Gods can have for us.

The Olympics are always hyped from the very beginning. People give it attention. And he likes the attention. Not clear whether he truly believes it is as big as winning a major. Particularly as so many of his fellow players chose to skip the Olympics.

Honestly I would also choose an Olympic title over any other title, if I could win just one. Wouldn’t even be a question for me, having a gold medal is HUGE. Only Wimbledon would be very close second.

Why wouldn’t he say this when he wet the bed trying to serve out the USO final? It’s also worth 2,000 ranking points when the Olympics is worth exactly 0 points.

Ranking points are temporarily and are only important if they could bring him to #1. What’s important apart from that, a few different seedings at some tournaments? Will even matter less after the Big 3 are gone and everything becomes random as in WTA.

I am fine with whichever player wins. The only thing for me is that it could be a confidence booster for Zverev and since he can defeat Djokovic from time to time I want him to be more confident - hoping he will be in Djokovic's draw in the QF's or SF's at the USO. But I would be equally happy for Khachanov, who played great at Wimbledon. Either way would be awesome!!!!

Zedrot gave us some reprieve from all the obnoxious GCYGS incoming talk. If him winning Olympic gold is the requisite sacrifice then:

So Murray and Nadal are GOAT. Case closed.

After this Olympics, we already know it will be 4 slam winners and 4 non slam winners.
Nole fckued this stat up, damaging Olympic tennis reputation.

It'll be ok if the Ziraffe grows up, gets his head on straight, and starts winning. I'll happily renounce my ABZ membership, which is based on his being an immature, bratty, git.
