St. Nicky is right in his observations (again), and his haters are wrong in theirs (again), but he is a more generous person than them, so he forgives them.

Pretty common for a crowd to boo when the marquee match pulls out in the night session. Also look at these trashy posters who can’t handle a rich brat

Hate to say it but the crowd was in the wrong if it was a genuine injury. Still funny to see Nick upset and losing all of his points.

I watched it live on TV. Nick is obviously injured - it's his left wrist. He called a medical time out and had it taped. He was unable to hit his two-hander. The last full game he played, he could only slice his backhand. He had no chance to win that match and was correct to retire. It was absolutely no surprise that he was going to retire based on the sequence of events prior to that point.

I'm not the biggest Krygios fan, but the crowd treated him very poorly - differently from when other popular players retire where there may be an initial boo or negative reaction but then they realize the guy is hurt and subsequently cheer and give applause. The crowd in Acapulco booed him off the court - very classless.

Unfortunately Djokovic isn't one of the other popular players.

So they back Nadal because for example they share the same language and religion?

That is not how it works: they think of the Spanish speaking players as closer to them and the Spanish speaking nations have a penchant for taking the Spanish speaking players as their "homeboys" especially if they play against players from other language provenance. Only deeply rooted conflicts from various origin can cause disruption in that general trend. That doesn't mean that there won't be people that will root for other players or will have other favourites, but on average there will be a lot more supporters for the said "homeboys" than for anyone else, unless his name is, say, Federer, in which case all bets are off.

Nick needs to grow up and focus on delivering some quality tennis, instead of trying too hard to be cool.

Going to make a sweeping generalization here... I’d assume the tennis supporters of Mexico are of Spanish descent. No offense meant in this comment <3
So happy to see someone from the family of their previous emperors ancestors playing? That’s rather weird, thought they were treated so badly by the Spanish killing the Mayans and all that.

Moctezuma’s revenge did in Krajinovic and on an esoteric level El Gran Doucho Bago Nico. Lol

Exactly. Look at the crowd of attendees. They don’t look like Mayans. They look like the Spanish.

Had to shave off points gained from ATP Cup.

Nick can't get his ranking too high or he'll never be able to spoil Djokovic/Nadal party early in tournaments.

I don’t really think Mexicans look that much Spanish. Ever been to Spain?

So does Guillermo del Toro or Gael Garcia Bernal not “appear” Mexican? There are loads of European descendant Mexicans in more affluent/metropolitan parts of the country like Mexico City and Monterray. As an American, it was a shock to my personal stereotypes when I first ran into a group of middle class kids from Mexico City on spring break in Cozumel; looked like any group of teenagers from Madrid.
