It's been a while, and I often don't remember the order of events perfectly. UTR is of limited use, since I played some matches not recorded there, but UTR records indicate a string of match victories raising my UTR to 5, since these included a victory or two against more highly rated players. One guy I beat, which may have been my last match, was a younger, much more fit, and more talented player. But I had been playing regularly and he had taken a couple months off, so I caught him on a rusty day. I also had more of an even keel, while younger men often get into a psychological funk and hit lots of UEs for many games in a row. I tend to just keep my head down and let them keep doing that. I also won a senior event. But the match against the younger guy that raised my UTR to 5 was much more satisfying.
Oh, also sometime in that same time frame, my wife and I played a UTR event against a father and son. We won the first set, but lost the next two, as the dad coached the son to recognize his limitations and just keep getting the ball back to us. Their fitness advantage showed as the match wore on, but it was great to see a father-son team work together so well to beat us.
