Last match you played?

What was the last match you played that meant something before all this virus stuff took over? Mine was a USTA match against someone I had never beat with the type of game that really frustrated me. I won 1 and 0 so I got a monkey off my back and then all this happened. I guess if that’s the last one I play I’m happy HA. That was weeks ago and after I asked my captain about if the usta had communicated anything yet about the outbreak. He said no. I said I thought it was going to shut things down. How about you guys? Last match? Good? Bad? Ugly?

I played a makeup 4.5 doubles match a few days before USTA issued the "shut down" directive. My partner was a 70 year old 4.0 and we played against another 4.5/4.0 team. For some reason, I played really really well that night and I recall picking up a couple of nice half volleys when the 4.5 guy blasted some returns at my feet. It was a nice way to end the season but my team finished 2-5 on the year and I went 2-3, so not a great year overall.

My last USTA match in early March was my first win in nine tries at men's 4.0 (just got bumped). Had had several close losses but finally pulled one out, and with a 3.5 partner against decent opponents - my best ever match rating on Tennisrecord (fwiw). I was pumped to keep that momentum going but now may have to wait a long time for another chance, sadly.

My last official USTA match was a crushing loss (5-7; 7-5; 1-0) in singles to an absolute cheater.

Very pleased with how I played, especially as I do not play enough singles ..... but the cheating was blatant. Especially on my match point in the tiebreaker ... and then on the next 3 points afterwards. Left a terrible taste in my mouth.

Have played a bunch of un-sanctioned matches since ... a few of them very good. One in particular the opponents were shocked at losing to us. Redemption.

Mine was actually good, played a USTA round robbin and I won my flight, I had some crazy matches.

First match was against a super heavy hitter, used a pure drive so serves were pretty difficult. I lost the first set 6-4, won the second 6-1 and the tiebreak 10-2.

Second match was harder, mainly because the kid was faster. I again lost the first set 6-1. I won the second set 6-3. I then won the tiebreak 10-8, super close match.

Third match was by far the easiest. The kid was way younger than me so I beat him in two straight sets, 6-0 6-0.

Overall I had a great final tournament experience.

Our club shuts for about six weeks over summer when we scarify and top-dress the courts, so the last important match I played was probably before Christmas.

Was an inter-club tie at home on grass - we won the rubber 5 sets to 2. I went 1-1 in singles, as did my partner, but we swept the doubles 3 sets to love.

I was serving pretty well but my volleys were off for some reason, which was really frustrating. Nothing worse for a S&V player than when you’re doing the hard work to set up the point, and then regularly muffing the put-away.

My last match was in a tournament against an ex Basket ball pro, French international (not Tony Parker haha). Playing against a huge guy who moves so fast was very unusual, as was his game made of old school chip and charge. We played indoors so lobs were a no-go, and his never ending arms were a real problem at the net.
I lost knowing I could beat him if we play again, once I got used to his unusual physique.
Very frustrating as I win most of the few baseline rallies we had.
Sadly, I was on my way to another competition when I got the message all French Tennis competition were cancelled. So no chance for a last good match

Feel your pain: Deep cross court return, get the short ball, solid approach shot from NML, dump the volley into the net

Perhaps I do not understand your weather fully .... but why a 6 week close down at the height of the season? Or are you in an area where you can play outdoors year round?

My last 'meaningful' match was the 1st week in March for my 40+ 4.5 team, and it was a bit of a disappointment.

Me & my partner were slated to play the #1 slot, which meant we'd likely play the other team's 5.0. We're both fairly strong 4.5s, and were looking forward to a good match. During warm-up, I was thinking "neither of these can be their 5.0 player", but then I reminded myself not to pre-judge my opponents. They could just be having a bad warm-up.

Well...me & my partner both played 'meh', and ended up winning 6-1, 6-1. I was confused after, thinking they didn't have a 5.0 and stacked the lineup in reverse. Turned out...no, we did play their 5.0. But apparently he got to 5.0 due his mixed results. He gives many people fits, especially women, because (a) he's extremely quick (for an old man :) ), and (b) his shots are somewhat unorthodox.

Anyway, that was likely my last USTA match for the year, so its good to go out on a winning note, but honestly, I was hoping for a good, old-fashioned beat-down by a strong 5.0/4.5 team.

I haven't played a league match since December, but I was already kinda out by that point. I had planned to get back to things this summer after some health and training improvements, but we will see how that goes.

Had my first 2 league matches of the year the two evenings prior to the USTA suspension. Won both in 3rd set tie breakers so right now I'm a perfect 2-0.

Lost 6/2 6/2 to the #3 seed in the first round of a (50+) Grade 1 back in January (I think). My first hard court tournament match in several years. Terrible idea; never again (singles, at least). I just played with a friend an hour ago... obviously no tournaments for several months, although purely by coincidence I wasn't planning on playing many tournaments this year. So, just screw-around tennis for the foreseeable future.

Went down 6-4, 6-4 to my buddy/HP, who is 10 years younger, a foot taller, and went to Van Der Meer & played in college (I did neither of those things).

I haven't beaten him since he switched racquets about 3 years ago. 4/4 is my second-best result since then (I split sets once). Feels good man.

Yeah the latter. I’m in the subtropics so playing in winter is quite pleasant. January is very hot and can also be quite wet and humid, so it’s a good opportunity to get good growth on the courts at a time when it’s not super nice to play.

It also coincides with summer school holidays when a lot of our members are away.

I coordinate an indoor-doubles-league on Saturday mornings, which is a great deal of fun. Most of the guys have known each other for years, so in addition to improving our tennis skills and getting good exercise, we socialize as well. The last time we played was on March 14th, two days before the whole club got shut down. I've heard some people started playing outdoors, but the temperatures are still on the chilly side in Michigan, so I haven't gone. I suspect it will be a rude awakening when I return. My racquet will probably feel like a foreign object!

My last one was beginning of March Alta Semi Finals of the senior playoffs. We won our match but the team lost in a 10 point tiebreak after we split the 4 matches. So it was fun.

Last match was March 8; #1 singles for our 4.0 team. Won 6-3, 6-0. Hitting the ball great due to lingering injuries healing up. Staying sharp during the crisis, have lots of open space and public courts in my town and a couple guys I can hit with (while taking precautions of course). Looking forward to fall season (and for the world to get healthy).

It's been a while, and I often don't remember the order of events perfectly. UTR is of limited use, since I played some matches not recorded there, but UTR records indicate a string of match victories raising my UTR to 5, since these included a victory or two against more highly rated players. One guy I beat, which may have been my last match, was a younger, much more fit, and more talented player. But I had been playing regularly and he had taken a couple months off, so I caught him on a rusty day. I also had more of an even keel, while younger men often get into a psychological funk and hit lots of UEs for many games in a row. I tend to just keep my head down and let them keep doing that. I also won a senior event. But the match against the younger guy that raised my UTR to 5 was much more satisfying.

Oh, also sometime in that same time frame, my wife and I played a UTR event against a father and son. We won the first set, but lost the next two, as the dad coached the son to recognize his limitations and just keep getting the ball back to us. Their fitness advantage showed as the match wore on, but it was great to see a father-son team work together so well to beat us.

Your public courts are open, where are you based? All the courts are padlocked in London but I know my mate in Texas is playing two hours a day on public courts.

Club league doubles. The day before the local shelter in place rules kicked in. Three sets of doubles rotating partners with each set.

Davis, CA. Pretty quiet college town. Education level is high, income level pretty high so complying with the spirit of the order seems to be working well, avoiding draconian measures. Plus the university is shut down and they have a nice complex with lots of courts open. In many areas (nearby in bay area) tennis is banned. I think in cities they have to shut down everything at the park (playgrounds, bball, tennis, pickle) because with that many people around it's hard to justify one over the other (and enforce) when they are right next to each other.

IF courts are locked I know a guy with a private court who I'm pretty sure would let me hit there a couple times a week, which is a nice backup plan if needed.

Lost 6-2, 3-6, 4-6. Tough singes match against a big hitter with a strong FH and good slice BH. He found his groove after the first set. Joined a flex league to get some single's match in prep for the 18+ season...

I bet 18s get canceled.

Public courts in rural Georgia are also still open, though that may change as the county just issued a "stay at home" order. But it has lots of exceptions, including "outdoor activities" as long as "social distancing" (6 ft) is maintained. Right now most of the boat ramps and state run shooting ranges are still open also, as are things like the mountain bike trails.

Of course, all the formal events (leagues, tournaments) are cancelled. My wife contributes to running an informal tennis group, and they have contingency plans to use nearby private courts if the county closes the public courts. The private courts are in a ritzy community and would be very hard to close.

the match i'm playing this afternoon will be the match that means most to me. then i will try and schedule one for tomorrow. the courts by me are still un chained and i never get 20 within feet from my opponent. all other courts across the county are locked. i still have a back up court i now about. a condominium has two nice courts that rarely see any use in normal times.

Last match was a doubles match on March 8th, won 7-6 6-1. Just coming back from an injury but felt pretty good. That was our 5th match of the 40+ Spring season and the team was 5-0. No word yet on what they plan to do with continuing the season. At least my injury has fully healed. ALTA starts back up with mixed and Senior Men June 19th so eager to get back out there.
