Which reflects the current state of affairs more closely, in your opinion? To my eye, the Race is more telling at the moment, with the exception of Djokovic. Medvedev and Zverev have not had particularly strong years at the Slams or at the M1000s.

I agree with you. I also think without injured, Zverev was possibly going to beat Rafa at RG and would have also been a favorite for Wimbledon

Hmm, I still don't see him as the favorite for Wimbledon, but I do think he could have pulled off the upset at RG.

Yep that Zverev-Nadal match was the most dramatic 2 sets of the year :p along with the Nadal-Medvedev 5th Set :happydevil:

Anyone have the (imaginary) rankings had Wimbledon awarded points as normal?

Something like this - if Wimbledon offered points:

Medvedev, 7775
Zverev, 6850
Nadal, 6165+720 = 6887
Djokovic, 4770 + 1200 = 5970
Tsitsipas, 5150+90 = 5240
Ruud, 5050+45 = 5095
Alcaraz, 4845+180 = 5025
Norrie, 3155 + 720 = 3875
Rublev, 3700
FAA, 3445+10 = 3555
Sinner, 3185+360 = 3545

Edit: Norrie bumps Sinner out of the top 10.

No, I don't think so. I think it was just going to be long.
Yep very long and very dramatic. The tennis quality itself wasn't top notch, but the non-stop see-sawing was special :happydevil:

If he can lose first set tiebreak after being 6-2 up and after having so many opportunities, there is literally NO WAY he would have managed to beat Nadal in 3 of the 4 sets remaining!!

NO WAY. He was choking time and time again. He may have looked superior in play but was psychologically way inferior.

If he couldn't handle anxiety earlier in the match, how do you expect him to handle himself later in the match? No chance. Choke generation.

Plus, that Nadal Zverev game had already gone for 3.5 hours...

could Zverev have lasted 7.5 hours to see off Nadal in 5 sets? NO, don't think he even had much stamina left. He looked more exhausted than Nadal.

Marton Fucsovics who was forced to pull out of a few matches this year with injuries, suffered the biggest fall -- he currently sits at number 97 in the rankings, dropping a whopping 38 places.

Shapo was bounced from the top 20, and one of my faves, Sebi Korda, is clinging to the top 60.

Tsitsipas is 2nd in the race? What fresh hell is this? Is it really just MC keeping him ahead of Alcaraz? Also Ruud 4th. My god I hate the state of tennis right now.

Its because they play so many meaningless tournaments to rack up the points... which boosts their rank, so these rankings are not a true representation of their current standing and quality.

Ruud has been guilty of this in the past...and he is playing Bastad next week, but he also has his runs in Miami and Paris to his credit this year. Not meaningless tournaments, but definitely decimated draws.

Tsitsipas - AO semi and MC

Rublev - RG quarters, Marseille, Dubai, Serbia

Tsitsipas leads the tour in matches played with 55 matches. 2nd is Norrie with 48. Tsitsipas signs up for any tournament he can get his hands on. Play a bunch of tournaments + get a few great results = #2 in the live race!

But he would be where Rublev is if all of his results were at smaller tournaments.

I still don't know why the ATP thinks not awarding ranking points at Wimbledon, hurts Wimbledon or helps the Ukraine in their war with Russia. The only ones getting hurt are the players.

So same, I really hope that fraud doesn’t make it to ATP finals

Yeah, Tsitsipas has a nice mix. Won a Masters and a 250. Final at another Masters and a 500. Semis at a GS, Masters, and a 500.
Tsitsipas legit plays every tournament known to man. For a guy that plays so many tournaments a year, he’s a real loser for hardly winning any. He wins at most 2-3 titles a year and enters like 28-30 tournaments

Sinner will jump into the top 8 after US open swing. In the race. Hoping he can win either Canada/Cincinatti and SF or deeper at US open

Those are very bold predictions. I can see it happening, although I am curious how Snarky Bear will respond to being forced to sit on the bench for two weeks. He must be feeling a tad bit territorial with the 1 next to his name.

Sinner has improved a lot and I expect him to get a win over him this year. And I think he will do it in either Canada/Cincinnati

How many Ukrainians did Wimbledon help by not letting the Russian tennis players do their job? Did they help one?

I think he has a very good chance of doing it at the US open too

Being a finalist at a major is a pretty strong year, full stop. Yes, he's been injured, and overcoming that, then got screwed by Perfidious Albion. Still a solid season all things considered.

Maybe they thought the players would take a collective stand against Wimbledon..

That's fair. I should have said, since the AO his year has fallen off.

No, even playing indoors the German was going to be able to beat Nadal at RG.
And Zverev hasn't done anything out of the ordinary to be considered a favorite at Wimbledon.
Last year, being one of the "favorites" he was defeated by FAA in 5 sets in the fourth round.
:D

He’s on the way down. Points or no points.
Sadly no. He won’t be going down anytime soon I don’t think, guys a master at Bo3. As long as he can pad on those points from 500’s and 1000’s he won’t be dropping, tour nowadays rewards better performances at ATP level than grand slams (not surprising).

Agree. But his level is dropping.
