Luxilon Savage Black 1.27

Hi guys,

Been play testing various shaped and textured poly-strings in the last couple weeks and after using (and liking!) a lot of cheaper strings (I'll list those), I felt like it might be a good thing in terms of reference to try one of the more "established" and expensive shaped polyesters on the market.

So I got myself a set of Luxilon Savage Black 1.27 and I was pretty anxious and excited to see how it would compare. High expectations but none were met. I strung it up at the same tension I've been playing all other polys with, 25kg mains 24kg crosses, and went to play test alongside two others: my old string, oehms black pearl 1.23 and Pro's Pro blackout 1.24. Both of those go for about €4 per set.

Simple verdict on the Luxilon: nothing in it.

Pro's : I felt it to be really "dead"-feeling, which I like.
Cons : Hardly any improvement in the spin department compared to my Oehms round poly.
No power or pop whatsoever.
None of the crisp feeling you usually have while playing a new stringbed.
Not as good a feeling at pocketing the ball.
Did I mention no power?!

I feel pretty let-down. I've read some good reviews too.. How can this be?!

In the end I decided in favour of yet another string: Pro's Pro Hexaspin Twist 1.20. Great spin but no loss in feel on flat shots as well as good enough pop for a poly string.

String is like wine. A big part of the fun in both is finding one you like that doesn't cost a lot of money. Sounds like you validated that you have a good string that doesn't cost a lot of money and I'd stick with it.

Some of us are still searching. I really like 4G, but it is way too costly. I am trying other strings here and there. When my reel runs out, I'll try a bunch, but may be stuck with it. :)

try Golden Set Snakebite. I switched to that after Savage because of the price but then found I really liked it
