It's an indoor carpet event, federer used to play it until Safin embarassed him in straight sets in 2002 quarters, before losing to Kafelnikov slayer in the semis. Safin took on this job as charity, as the Kazakh TF is where the rubles are these days.

Are you trying to create controversy with semantics? Back in the golden 2002 days it was a fast surface at an indoor venue, commonly referred to as "indoor carpet".

You are correct, Safin had a glorious win over great Pete Sampras that secured him the unique millenium US Open title. And yes, he did embarass slamless Federer in straight sets in that match, a glorious and humiliating defeat that would keep Federer out of Moscow for many years to come.

Your overhyped idol will be outside of ATP top 200 by this time next year. Maybe he'll beg for a wildcard into Legg Mason qualies and get his dream wish. Can you try to get a picture of yourself with weeping fed after he loses to Treat Huey in the qualies next year maybe?:lol:
