Martina's success shouldn't shock anyone

Martina played with WTT where she was the MVP. Why is everyone shocked that she's playing well when she had so much success playing against other pros in another league? WTT may not be the WTA, but they are pros nevertheless and Martina had plenty of professional competition before her so called comeback. Honestly, it would have been more shocking if she hadn't played any competitive tennis before her comeback.

I am really glad she is back. She plays beautiful cerebral tennis and is in excellent condition. Not to mention that she is very pleasing to the eye, even better as she ages. Not that I notice those things, ponytail and all ;).

well, to keep it in perspective: WTT men's players in a recent even included such greats as Ramon Delgado, Sam Warburg, and Jeff Morrison. Oh wait I forgot Travis Parrot. Dominating those guys would hardly predict beating Hewitt, Grosjean or Henman.

And I suppose the average weekend warrior could beat Delgado. WTT players are no slouches.

She has 3 AO titles and has maded it 3 times to the finals as a runner-up, she likes the AO.The match against Kimmy will be interesting, i love Clijsters, i wont now who to root for, she has a winning record against Clijsters, we will see what happens, first she needs to advance.

Hingis against Clijsters is far far more difficult than Sharapova against Huntchacova.

Some how Sharapova always gets the easier draw out of all the women and when she doesn't she goes straight down. Must be nice drawing like that:rolleyes:

It's still a surprise. Not many people want to hype her up in fear that she might not meet expectations. Keep expectations low, and viewers seem more surprised at her results.

Playing in WTT doesn't mean it's an easy go-through, but the WTT is no WTA. The WTA is so much stronger and more balanced than ever before.

College basketball is no slouch either, but when you jump from college basketball to Nba, it's a much different atmosphere, and not to mention the PRESSURE a player feels in both basketball transition, and tennis transition.

People tend to forget that women's tennis today is not as great as 10 years ago ( in terms of tennis). Raw power and error making would be intimidating to any of the past greats (even Steffi and Moncia), but it's not consistent power (like Seles and Graf) or accurate (like Seles) and will not last long (like Graf). None of the current group has plan B. Once Hingis is used to the power and realises that she will sometimes lose against the big hitters, she will be a force to reckon with. She only has to stick to her game a-b or c , she will have no problems in future. I can't belive I just said that, I don't even like her.

1997 was her year, but her main rival was severly injured that year, Hingis should have worked on her pshysical game then. She has a 2nd chance now, hopes she takes it and matures into a champion like a Navratilova, an Evert, a Graf, a Seles, and a nice person like Sabatini or Davenport.
