Match Stats - Cincinnati 2011 QF - Simon vs Murray

I just wanted to try doing some stats similarly following the @Waspsting format on his previous posts somewhat. What better way to start off with a classic push-fest? (y)

[4] Andy Murray defeated [10] Gilles Simon, 6-3 6-3 in the Cincinnati QF 2011 on Hard-court. Murray would go on to win the whole tournament. Simon was quite obviously sluggish with his movement especially in the 2nd set, no doubt his three setters with Melzer, Tipsarevic and Ferrer had taken it's toll. May do a match report afterwards, just really wanted to try this out.

Nice, man

The first match I did was one off your channel (Lendl-Connors, double bagel)

You could have started with Isner-Mahut:)

Heh, thanks. I really appreciate your threads and I've always wanted to compare some specific match ups in a bit more detail, so I thought I might give it a go. I quite enjoyed it if I'm being honest.

Anything you would have added? I'm open to suggestions.

Ain't nobody got time for that lol...

stuff I give that you don't have here are

- service winners
- return rate (returns made/non-double faults serves faced)
- number of games each player had break points on

first two aren't a big deal, but I do like to look at the third one

Stuff you've got that I don't give are

- specific first serve pattern (awesome!)
- first serves made when break point down
- rally length (tremendous!)

I thought about tracking rally length, but that'd completely kill my viewing pleasure. Mind you, it took a good long while to be able to retain viewing pleasure (and understanding) while taking stats in the first place... getting fluent at it is a process. I used to have to watch a match a second time to understand the playing dynamics - something that comes pretty naturally to me when watching a match without taking stats. Like most things, it gets easier with practice

Hope you keep at it... I think its best if you find your own way and give stats as an expression of how you see tennis, but anything you need, give me a shout

I would have given service winners if I had judged any to be so in the Murray/Simon match. Return rate is an interesting one, may try it out next, though you could probably get an understanding from the unreturned serves stat.

I had planned to add unique games each player had BPs, completely forgot about it seems, will definitely add in future.

Thanks for the feedback.
