"With the exception of Roger Federer, Alcaraz has far more alternatives when he is in charge of the rally when it comes to different match-ups."

What a joke. Alcaraz will undoubtedly win countless slams and have a superlative career. But claiming he "might certainly match" Rafa or Djoker's accomplishments is idiocy. It's more accurate to say he has a 1% chance of getting anywhere close to 20+ slams or 300+ weeks at #1.

So if this is correct, Alcaraz will deal with all the matchups… except 1 where he will suffer terribly and his fans will be screaming at him to do one simple thing to fix it and finally, in the last 3 years of a 16 year rivalry, he will work it out. Wonder whom it will be as no-one has really “exposed” an aspect of his game yet

The Big 3 have really spoiled us with their massive success. Now every up and coming player will be expected to be the next Federer or Nadal or Djokovic.

As an Alcaraz fan I’m happy with his success, and right now I’m just enjoying the journey. He obviously has a very long way to go before he reaches the Big 3 in terms of success and it’s not a guarantee if he’ll ever get there because there are many things that can happen. I enjoy his style of tennis and I hope he has a long career and stays healthy.

I think Sinner could be the one who can expose his good-but-not-great serve

There’s also something clearly exploitable with his inconsistent baseline footwork. I think you could 100% frazzle him with depth and strong passing shots. There’s a bit of a Nadal thing going on with Carlos’s FH where I actually think you can break down that shot a bit, you can take time away from him on that wing.

Sinner did all of this to perfection in Wimbledon and Umag and parts of the USO QF. Of course Sinner is a flawed player himself and that serve is just not good enough to be relied on consistently.

Well said. It's crazy to expect anyone to reach the heights of the big 3.

Just hope he stays healthy and can entertain us for years to come.

Lol over a year ago Charlie was himself saying he was like Federer and now Mats is making out like this is some original thought.

I read the article. "Mats Wilander claims that Carlos Alcaraz‘s extensive toolbox of options and weaponry resembles Roger Federer‘s in certain ways. With the exception of Roger Federer, Alcaraz has far more alternatives when he is in charge of the rally when it comes to different match-ups. When he can control it, he can hit a wide range of shots with confidence."

Why is that controversial? How did that statement translate to 20 Slams and weeks at no 1 etc? Alcaraz is certainly skilful. He can blast off both wings, volley, drop shot, slice etc. His armoury is full of options.

I personally don't see it as a controversial remark. It's kind of par for Wilander's course, honestly. Anything to keep himself in the news.

Aren't you the same person who said it was idiocy that Djokovic would surpass Fed in slam count? Don't you ever learn?

Sounds about right. We've seen that user's expertise (above). I don't even want to know what kind of 'learning' went into developing that.

It is controversial because Federer never had as many options as Carlos - never could play defense with Djokovic sliding footwork and never hit the variety of drop shots as one of his major weapons to end points.

Gets some popcorn and waits for Fedfan rage:cool:

maybe, but Fed has the better serve, slice, volley, overhead, etc. Plus tiny Carlos is tinier
Whole thing seems to buck the trend that I had anticipated. Will be interesting to see if it's sustainable. I really thought that court dimensions would have to be expanded.

Same poster also falsely accused me of having a second account and responding to my own posts to get attention? I actually requested TTW to investigate and he was proven wrong. Of course, at TTW this behavior is acceptable which explains why you get more of this.

Sorry to hear that you were subjected to that.

This particular series of remarks from this user is absolutely unconscionable. Outrageous. It's a wonderment to me that this user had the nerve to come back here after that — let alone being allowed to do so.

There it is. BeatleFan has spoken. 1% chance she said. Now I know for sure that Karl will most definitely match Bull and Djokovic's careers and might do even better.

I would not predict what any young player will accomplish. Years ago, few would predict anyone would win 20, or 22slams

Since Seles, who had 8 slam titles by age 19 1/4 managed to reach 9 for her career, then Alacaraz with 1 slam title by age 20 can perhaps definitely maybe reach 20 in his career.

Wilander is onto something here.
