I'm surprised @Irvin hasn't posted. the proper tension for stringing tree lights. Most likely depends on tree pattern, it dense tree or open pattern.
After all he is the guru here

BTW, I tried using 10% pre-stretch whilst installing the tree lights.
That is ill-advised.
