Monday Final? Or Sunday?

Has the Final been moved to Monday? Have heard different things. Personally, I think it needs to be played Sunday regardless of how it has played out. Blame the rain, no roof, no lights, or the organizers... or simply clay.

I wonder what the ratings or the affects on the financial gain are when they move tournaments to Monday. Not sure how to find out that info.

For me, the end of the clay season is Sunday, not ONE day past, not a single day more of this clay. Clay season is officially over Sunday for me. The grass is greener on the other side of this RG's.

I would love to see him say that, if the public found out that he did this, he would be ridiculed... and rightfully so.

I would love to see him say that too, fans of 11 time French open champion are afraid of Djokovic so much that even if he plays 4 consecutive days in a row the Rafa fans still are afraid to face him, dats called Thug life Djoker ..
Ofcourse he should come out in sweaters on Sunday and forfeit the match..
Lol at French open organisers.:D

Lol could u imagine if Fed was in a final and Nadal was going around threatening to not play unless they move the final to Monday bc he had to play half a match on Saturday? This place would EXPLODE. Or imagine if it was Serena. I can see the "She's a mother" threads from here :whistle::whistle:

Dont even put that thought into peoples brains. Soon there will be a theoretical thread titled "Mother Forced to Play Finals while daughter waits a WHOLE extra day in America."

If Novak wins in 5 sets on Saturday, he might refuse to play on Sunday and would be ready to withdraw if need be, and rightly So.
Fat chance. He's going for the Noleslam, he sure as hell ain't gonna forfeit. He may threaten to do so and if he does, he should be faced with default just for making the threat. Serena has often acted as if she's above the game and if Novak shows even the slightest hint of this behavior, the fans will be turning their backs in droves.

The USO played the semis on Saturday and the finals on Sunday for 40 years and few players ever complained about it. I think the final should be played on Monday, but Novak acting the Diva isn't a good look. The conditions out there today were the same for Thiem and he just went about his business, not demanding play be halted due to win.

No human decides if it rains with strong wind on Sunday. But it is fun pretending. Children often do that to entertain themselves.

Djokovic hasn't actually done this yet tbough and really doubt he will. Just saying.

Nadal did actually complain in the final in 2012 until it got delayed til the following day. Just saying

There should have been no matches today in the first place. Both the matches sucked in quality..
Fed Rafa match ws so pathetic to watch, both the guys were adjusting wid wind d whole time..
Thiem Djoker match was even worse.. Both semi finals shud have been played on Saturday (at same time)

And I don't mind if Djoker losing the final to Rafa.. But if he wins in 5 sets tomorrow, he shud walk on the court wearing a sweater and congratulate Rafa for a great win on Sunday .. That's it..
This is how you teach RG officials a lesson..

If Djoker does win on Sunday, it apparently will be bigger than his CYGS. We wont hear the end of it, and how amazing it was beating Rafa in the final of RG on no rest.

Honestly, as much as I want to see a good final, that would be hilarious, and I would actually applaud Djoker for holding his word. Then he would get smashed by everyone...

wen Officials stopped the match against nishikori when it was slightly raining, Nadal got angry bcoz Nadal was winning lol

And still Nadal's fans will tell u that Djoker fans are bad :p and Djoker is crybaby.. Lol

I would say there's no way they're going to can a match the day before it happens, refund everyone, and expect people to show up for a monday day time final (though that worked out pretty well for Wimbledon in 2001) but the way things have been organized today it wouldn't surprise me to be honest.

I think if Thiem wins then Sunday it is, and nobody will give an s, an h, an i, or a t, If Djokovic wins then talk of Monday will probably pick up steam.

Online trolls doesn't matter in reality to Djoker, so Watever trolls write won't affect him..
He had opportunity to win 4 in a row and have all reasons to be pissed off bcoz of stupid scheduling /rain..
He is not winning the title now, and he also knows its a bad luck...

Sorry, but out of all the players on tour, Djoker is the one guy that definitely does care what others think.

LOL I'm watching the replay on tennis channel and courier just says yeah the Dow will be in the locker room shortly and Yoko and tea might not even finish tonight with upcoming rain delays they should have started the semi-finals at 11 a.m. that was f****** ridiculous

If they won't let the 1 seed choose their potential semifinal opponent (which side the 3 and 4 seeds are placed), they should at least give the 1 seed scheduling priority.

It's on Sunday. Nadal will face whichever corpse tumbles out of the semi and win in straights.

I'm confused. Have players never played the day before a grand slam final before?

They did. But I can't remember if they played 3 straight days before the final, though

That sounds fair, lets give the best player the choice on who he wants to play, when, and where. That would be good...

But overall it was extremely playable, as Rafa had 33 winners and only 19 unforced errors, and hit some of his most spectacular shots ever, and often on the biggest points :)

Rafa played some good points, no doubt..
But it was a Pathetic match and maybe the worst Nadal fed match in Terms of quality.
Both guys were trying to adjust wid the wind the whole match..
Feds 2nd serve had no speed Coz he ws conscious of wind..

Hold up, he's gonna put all his energy into winning in 5 sets just to withdraw from the final? Sorry m8 but he doesn't have that loser mentality.

It's the luck of the draw. If the second semi is finished Sat, the final will be played Sun. Too much at stake to postpone it - ticket holders (many of whom have traveled great distances to see the final), and most importantly, TV schedules. Millions have been paid for the rights to televise these matches (that's where much of the prize money comes from). If it's pushed to Monday for no good reason, ratings and profits would be far lower. Die-hard tennis fans like people here would watch, but most 'ordinary' people likely wouldnt.

Can you imagine the push-back if it's postponed just because Djokovic requested it? How would the Nadal camp respond??? Sure, Nole can ask - no harm at all in that... But to do it just because he did ask is silly.

I for one would love to see Novak do that and stick it to the organizers.
Why was Novak-Thiem semi second while the marquee Fedal match was played first ? Has Nadal ever played the second semi in any tournament in the last decade when the second semi winner has a distinct disadvantage?

This is exactly the reason I want Djoker to win the semi on Saturday and then forfeit the final and walk away like a thug on Sunday, embarrassing the RG organisers.

If Poor Thiem wins on Saturday, he will have to play again on Sunday and will get manhandled by Fresh Rafa, and we all know its unfair on theim expect maybe RG dckheads

They have to had made a decision by now. Unless the weather is shaky tomorrow, shouldnt they have made the final decision already.

Or are they going to be trash, and wait to see who win knowing that Thiem will not complain.

There is simply too much money involved in televising important matches on schedule. The following article pertains to the USOpen from a few years ago.

https://www.ibtimes.com/us-open-201...ri-struggle-draw-viewers-cbs-bows-out-1683116

After frequent complaints from players, last year it was announced that the final would actually be scheduled for the Monday, as it was again this year, in order to provide the men’s finalists an extra day’s rest. The USTA had to pay CBS $6 million in compensation for the switch, according to Sports Illustrated’s Jon Wertheim.

From 2015, the U.S. Open will adapt the same schedule as the three other Grand Slams, with the men’s semifinals on Friday, women’s final on Saturday and men’s final on Sunday. That should certainly help the ratings for ESPN, which paid $825 million for coverage over the next 11 years. ESPN already covered the bulk of the U.S. Open, with CBS bringing the Labor Day weekend action and the finals to broadcast audiences. ESPN will also be encouraged by the fact that by 2016 a roof is set to have been constructed over the USTA National Tennis Center’s showpiece court, Arthur Ashe Stadium. In doing so, the U.S. Open will join Wimbledon and the Australian Open in ensuring that there are none of the long rain breaks that broadcasters hate. It will also end the chance of ratings-killing Monday finals.

Perhaps if Nole himself wanted to pony up the millions to pay for a switch to Monday, maybe. How many networks worldwide have such schedule changing compensation clauses built into their contracts? And a change simply based on one players request?

Nole is the number one player in the world and Thiem (last years finalist) is not exactly chopped liver. It also gave Djoko and Thiem more time to prepare since playing their quarter final matches a day after the other side of the draw had. If the order of play had been reversed, there woudl have been others complaining.

If weather is ok on Sunday final will be played Sunday. The event isnt going to **** off fans and sponsors to appease Djokovic..a one time champion.

Nadal will not in any event agree to it and he is far more powerful than Djokovic politically. Only Federer has more power and even though Federer is out dont think Federer wont get involved behind the scenes on this issue.

Also weather forecast is worse on Monday than Sunday.

Ive no idea what happened today. Im loathe to accuse Djokovic as we dont know the facts. All i would say is IF Djokovic refused to play today after the suspension then he has himself to blame.

The other thing is Thiem was not looking good today at all. Clay in his eyes and he was asking for food....it was the worse Thiem had played all event so it would be plainly daft for Djokovic to have stormed off. He must have seen thiem struggling.
