More pressure for Roger in the '08 FO

Roger now has tied for #2 in grand slam titles. Which sets up the possibility, if he can win the Oz open in '08, that the French could be his record tying 14th, not to mention the completion of his carrer slam and possibly the second leg of a possible grand slam in '08 and his possible 11th at Oz and 12th at the French. Can he maintain his level through the next year?

I think so. He has proven that he can stay healthy, so a healthy Federer is still better than anybody else right now.

Yes, it would be great if he won Roland Garros to equal Sampras's record, then win 6th Wimbledon to consolidate his greatness in tennis history. Also don't forget, the Olympics are also on next year, so he has the chance to win the Golden Slam a la Steffi Graf!!

Should be a good year of tennis next year, with Nadal and Djoko pressuring Fed.

theres deff. more pressure than ever before on him by I think that he'll pull through and that hes taking the golden slam

Roger Federer is a legend and he's only 26 by the way he's way ahead of Sampras in slam titles at the same age. Roger is amazing to win the US OPEN four years in a row. Nobody has done that since the homosexual tennis player Bill Tilden in the 1920s. Roger also is the first man to win 3 out of the 4 slams on three different occasions. He's also the first player in the Open era to win the Wimbledon and US OPEN four years in a row. Roger is the dominant no.1.

However, Roger needs that French Open title to be GOAT. He simply has to win the French Open and I pray that he does.
I think Roger needs to change up his clay court schedule next year.
Roger Federer is an awesome player. I think Roger should play one of the SMALLER clay court events and of course make sure Nadal is not entered in them. I think Roger needs a new strategy. I think he should play a minor event in Estoril during the clay court season next year and add to his schedule. I think Roger needs to play one more clay court event leading up to the French Open. I think that's the key.

You actually made a halfway decent post here. The only thing is why did you have to say "that homosexual Bill Tilden?" You could have left the **** part out. What do you have against gay people anyways? Pretty much every post you make has something to do with he's gay or she's gay.

Hello, that was a big part of what Bill Tiden was. Tilden was openly gay in the 1920s and 1930s and the world press knew about it. Everybody knew about it. Try reading a book on tennis history. Its a big part of Tilden's life and he it shouldn't be hidden.
If you read tennis history you would know that Bill Tilden didn't hide his homosexuality in fact he put it out there. I am not putting down Tilden I think Tilden was obviously a great champion. It took 82 years for someone else to duplicate his success at the US OPEN. And I think Roger has a similarity to Tilden in terms of the efffort Roger puts into how he looks. Roger just like Bill cared very much how he dressed on the court, how his hair looked. Roger also has a style and a glamour to him just like Bill Tilden.

Agreed. I was wondering how that was relevant to her post.

What are you trying to say about Roger then?

I think Roger's 1h backhand is the weakness of his FO. Nadal is just hitting his high spin to Roger's 1h backhand. Everyone who plays with 1h backhand knows if the ball is coming with strong spin and bounces high, it is pretty hard to hit. I think as of now Roger's hasn't figure out the best way to defend this. I think he needs a coach just to help him win FO.

Hello? Anyone home? I didn't think so. I just asked why you had to mention Tilden being gay. It had nothing to with your post at all. You didn't answer my question either. So keep "gay trolling" once again.

I don't agree that there will be more pressure on Fed at the '08 FO. As he continues to amass GS titles the FO title becomes less important. Sampras was hailed the GOAT simply because he won the most GS titles even though he never won the FO. Surely, should Fed surpass Sampras' total, he will also be anointed the new GOAT even if he never wins the FO. If he wins the AO he will feel less pressure at the FO because based on recent history he would be likely to win Wimby or the USO or both to tie or surpass Sampras' record. At this point I think winning the FO would be gravy.

Next year has the potential to be the greatest year ever in the sport. Federer has the chance of the Golden Slam and to go past Sampras' record of 14 slams in the process.

This time in 12 months we could finally have the answer to the question of who is the GOAT. I can't wait to see how things plan out, i'm sure even Nadal fans have to be a bit excited about the prospects of what Federer can achieve next year ;)

we don't think of FO now. it is still more than 1/2 a year away. i enjoy hard court tennis, rather than the red dirt. give us a break. ;)

I don't see anything wrong with mentioning he's gay. It's just another attribute. You could say Tilden with the giant forehand (I don't actually know if he had one) or Chang the asian dude. It's just something else that distinguishes him from another, and if the actual guy saw no harm in declaring his sexuality to the world, there's no harm in including that description. That's who he was. He embraced it, so who are we to judge somebody for mentioning that fact?

What is the big deal about caring how you look?, Roger might, but so do spanish players like Moya and Lopez, nobody is calling them out.

I completely agree with the OP that this year is gonna be tough at the French, and it might not hurt him to not win the Oz, less pressure at the French (gaining the career slam, and breaking the all time record), and he could break Pete's record where he's most comfortable, at Wimbledon.

Actually Bill Tilden never announced to the world he was gay. He was a closet homosexual. Never came out of the closet. I was just asking Blackgirlx what her problem is with gay people. She accuses all of these people of being gay yet she can't prove any of it. It's complete BS and she is just a troll.

Lets back to the topic........Fed just 26 and by his recently great performance, he still able to gain and achieve more. Probably could take over Sampras. Fed already in his pocket 12th grand slams titles.

The point is that you went out of your way to mention that he was homosexual when it bore no relevance to the subject at hand. I see no problem discussing it in context, but here it was totally irrelevant.

Well I guess it depends on who you consider as the current GOAT, and what it will take to surpass that person.
While Federer can certainly make a case for himself with continued success next year, I'm not sure he can cement the GOAT status in just one more year. Fortunately he should have many years of play left in him barring injury or mental fatigue (i.e. Borg), so we will know in the next few years whether he is going to be worthy of the imaginary title.

Maybe! But with the possibility of 16 slams, a Golden Slam, record number of weeks at number etc..

It would be hard for anyone to make a case for anyone else, maybe Laver winning 2 calendar slams but if Federer did manage the Golden Slam I feel that would be enough for him to surpass everyone else.

I doubt he will win the Golden Slam next year so you are probably right, we will have to wait another few years to see if he is the GOAT. But the possibility is there.

Sampras has 14 slams. Most people consider Sampras the current GOAT. If Federer even wins the Australian/Wimbledon/U.S Open triple next year, which he will at the very least, whether or not he wins the French (which he may) he will become the new GOAT in most peoples eyes, with 15 slams to Sampras's 14.

Fed has seen enough big moments to cope with whatever 2008 can throw at him. He is the definition of consistancy. I'd be more worried if I was a Nadal fan that Rafa may not make the FO final and Fed will walk through to the title.

By the way, it's OK to mention someone is gay, it doesn't mean you are homophobic. You people are so uptight it makes me laugh!
