Most Consecutive Grand Slam Achievements

Next year, if Nadal wins a major, he will break a tie with Borg, Sampras, and Federer for most consecutive years of winning at least one slam in a year. It will be his 9th consecutive year of winning at least one grand slam in a year.

If Federer reaches the final of a grand slam, he will tie Sampras and Lendl for most consecutive years of reaching at least one grand slam final in a year. It will be his 11th consecutive year of reaching at least one grand slam final in a year.

Nadal's acheivement would put him as the only person with 9 consecutive years? or are there others

Nope, Nadal would stand alone. And Nadal just needs to win his pet slam, Roland Garros, to accomplish this. (And it'll likely only stop at 12-13 consecutive years, since Nadal is so dominant at Roland Garros.)

No, because Rafa is so spectacular he will never stop winning slams...

Nadal won't wait for his pet slam to achieve this superhuman feat, he will achieve the record at the AO next year.

True. And if Nadal can win AO 2013 and Roland Garros 2013, he can get the kind of confidence he had after Monte Carlo 2010 and perform a clean sweep of Wimbledon 2013 and US Open 2013. When Nadal dropped to #4 in Feb 2010, he stormed back and won every slam until the end of the year. That's Rafael Nadal, 15 majors, CYGS, winning two of every slam, at the tender age of 27.

And I thought we *******s were delusional. I hope nadal can keep competing at a high level and all but aren't you being a tad unrealistic?

9 consecutive major winning years is fairly good going for a guy who was supposed to be in a wheelchair by now :|

It'll be nice to see if Nadal and Fed can achieve these next year.

The only thing tender are his knees.

He won't do it.

Last year you said Nadal won't win a major. And you said he'd lose to Djokovic in the RG final, among other failed predictions. You don't know that he won't do it. Don't you get the least bit fazed after all these predictions gone wrong?

Haha, the only people who can compete with the *******s as far delusions of grandeur is concerned are the Nadturds (probably with even more absurd fantasies). *********s are closely catching up though.

But nevertheless, I stand by your hope that the buttpicker can come back at the same high level of competitive tennis, or even much higher esp with this long hiatus from the game. Vamos Rafael !!!

Nadal will likely win atleast 1 Grand Slam next year. The guys claiming Nadal has no chance of winning even 1 Slam are just as ridiculous as NS-ahem, 6-3, 7-4, 8-0 or whatever.

TheFifthSet, that's how ridiculously foolish CLarky has become. And he has the gall to post incessantly about these stupid predictions. What a dou...

Fed can not achieve it no more because his consecutive Slam wins were halted by Rafa and Djoker last 2011. Fed finished at 8 consecutive yrs of winning Slams.
Nadal has a chance to do it 9 or more if he continues to win Slams next year etc

Nadal is a lock at Rolland Garros...if he fails to deliver on this great feat, it will a great disappointment in world history considering it's a pet slam for him

Well, of course he can...

As :) RFederer :) won his pet slam at Wimbledon for the 7th time this year (a record), he only has to win it for eight more years and he'll get the record (and who is going to stop it from doing so, now that RNadal is never going to win another grand slam with LRosol in the draw?). I personnally see him winning Wimbledon well into his 40's, so he should end up with 20-22 trophies there (the first man IN WORLD HISTORY to have won so much at any event) and about 40 grand slam titles overall (yet another record unmatched IN WORLD HISTORY).

The Federer one refers to the consecutive years of reaching finals record, which he can equal next year.

Ahhhhh, ok. My bad. For what its worth, Fed getting into another F without winning the Championship. Wouldn't really mean much. That record of 9 consecutive finals doesn't really hold much weight compared to his other stellar records. But I guess a F is a finals, whether a 250 event or a GS. It's Fed we are talking about here, so that possible record appears small by his standard

well if Fed wins one of either AO, W, or USO he becomes undisputed leader at that particular slam basically, so it'll be a record no matter what.

If he wins the FO he also becomes the first person to have a double career GS. So whatever slam he wins from now on is going to set multiple big records.

Although, most people would rather have him win a Grand Slam other than the Australian Open, it would be pretty cool if he won it, considering it would be his fifth championship there. 3 Different Grand Slams with at least 5 Championships at each. Nadal doesn't even have 2 Championships at 3 different Grand Slams.

You can't count the past because travel conditions were different in the past so in the 1920's and 1930's player didn't necessarily want to travel slowly by boat (which could take many weeks) so often they would limit travel or just stay in their country.

Later if an amateur player who played the majors became dominant he would turn pro to make money in tennis and would immediately be banned from playing in the majors. This happened to greats like Gonzalez, Kramer, Rosewall and Laver. To put it in perspective, Laver won majors in 1960 to 1962, turned pro and was banned until 1968. Laver won Wimbledon again in 1968 and won the Grand Slam in 1969. Would he have won a major in the years he was banned? Who knows? Gonzalez was the dominant player in tennis for close to a decade. He easily could have won a major for over nine consecutive years.

Still if Nadal does it, it would be a fabulous achievement and another great accomplishment in a career of great accomplishments.

Something tells me that if Federer couldn't do it, no one can. But if Nadal does do it, it will certainly put him in a league of his own.
