Most Disturbing Movie...

What's the most disturbing movie you have ever seen. You know, the one that either creeped you out, or bothered you for days on end.

1. American Beauty
2. Shindler's List
3. Sophie's Choice

But, honestly, American Beauty takes the cake. What a bizarre, sick yet fantastic movie.

Saw. How such a crappy film with ******** characters, ugly cinematography, go nowhere dialogue, poor acting, and wasn't even scary or that gory could be made and distributed in theatres.
And not only that, how could a sequal have been made that is even worse than the original?! I watched the sequel last night and we were constantly like 'that's not what I would do, say or behave' throughout the whole entire film. *wretch*
I know this thread wasn't meant for a rant like this but I just had to vent.

My real pick might be Born on the Fourth of July.

Wise Blood, Dead Ringers, Night and Fog. All were very psychologically disturbing in portraying ostensibly normal people easily crossing the line to do really sick things.

-Silence of the Lambs
-Downfall - the film about the last 10 days of the Third Reich (sp?), did you know that some 50 million people perished during WWII..50 million!
-True Romance - for the bizarre array of actors. the scene that sticks with me the most is when Dennis Hopper is about to be eliminated by Christopher Walken..i swear that was the finest piece of acting i've ever seen by Hopper

MONSTER- That chick was crazy. Theron was awesome in that role.

LOLITA- Obviously illegal, but you kinda felt bad for him somehow. Still disturbing. Even more disturbing that they had sex scenes between Jeremy Irons and Domonique Swain.

AMERICAN BEAUTY- Such a great one though.

BULLY- Anyone who has ever had some screwed up friends can appreciate this movie. Really disturbing flick, much like watching a car wreck. One of my highly reccomended... or maybe I'm the only one who's seen it.

And for something really scary, Ringu (the original version of The Ring). Sparse music, dialogue, and shooting, but it was really effecie. I had the light on for weeks afterward.

Breakpoint, I'd forgotten about Clockwork Orange and Eraserhead.

Best scene in Eraserhead is the dinner scene with the chicken and then there's always "singing in the rain."

Actually, Saving Private Ryan was not a true story, purely fictional. There were cases of brothers serving in the military at the same time, but no cases where all but one brother were killed and the Army had to send in a search team to find the remaining brother.

As far as TV shows, One Step Beyond, the B&W '60's TV show that was a scarier version of The Twilight Zone used to scare the h*ll out of me when I was a kid (reruns).

But my vote for the most disturbing flick-it actually made me feel dirty, bothered the hell outta of me for days- is Requiem For A Dream. Pure lunacy and just a good gander into what you know is happening out there.

Unless it's a porn flick, all sex scenes in mainstream movies are fake, i.e., no penetration.

thanks Brettolius....that scene really stuck w. me....Hopper busting their chops knowing he was going to get killed and showing fear too..that was such a cool movie..by far Quentin Taratino's best effort and blows away Pulp Fiction IMO. put Requiem for Dream in my Netflix queue..thanks.

Can't remember... my most recent one was Battle Royale... a Japanese movie.

The first one was better of course. About a class of high school students sent to an island to play survivor - ie, kill each other until there's only one left. Whoever breaks any rules will have the necklace fixed on their necks blow up and sent their blood spraying. If there's more than 1 survivor at end of 3 days, everyone dies. Each person gets a unique weapon... maybe be a crossbow, machine gun, pistol, axe, a useless fan or more. Two bloodthirsty "transfer" students join in to escalate the danger. At the start, friends quickly band together, but suspicions and betrayals soon turn into a literal Blood-Bath.

the one that got me really scared is The Eye. this movie makes the Ring, SAW, the Haunting and any other ghost movie look like a cartoon. here is a plot summary i got from IMdB.

A blind girl gets a cornea transplant so that she would be able to see again. However, she got more than what she bargained for when she realised she could even see ghosts. And some of these ghosts are down right unfriendly. So she embarks on a journey to find the origins of her cornea and to reveal the history of the previous dead owner

My 'Truly Disturbing' top ten:

1) Schindler's List. If you didn't know what actually happened you would dismiss it as fiction.

2) Saving Private Ryan. Particularly the first 11 minutes. Imagine being the boy in the LST as the ramp dropped, and you really had no idea what to expect. You could read of it, be told of it, but like Schindler's List, Spielberg made you look at it.

3) Blackhawk Down. The cost.

4) Band of Brothers. E-Company was 'tasked' within the Regiment to assault fixed positions. To actually keep doing it after they learned what to expect. The quote when moving toward the 'Battle of the Bulge", "We're Airborne. We're supposed to be surrounded." I actually met "Wild" Bill Guarnerre who lost a leg during the seige of Baston. Truly our greatest generation.

5) Hamburger Hill. The insanity.

6) Johnny Got His Gun. Old, but jarringly disturbing. Truly a fate worse than death.

7) The Pawnbroker. Maybe Rod Steiger's best role ever.

8 ) Prince of the City. Treat Williams' best.

9 ) Deliverance. Put a new spin on white water rafting.

10) Angel Heart. Never got "Louis Cypher" til the end.

If none of you have seen Battle Royale....rent or something. Truely disturbing. read the reviews at imdb.com. Its not just some hack and slash blood gore movie but it had value as well.

Never saw Johnny Got His Gun, but I got chills just thinking about the book when you brought it up.

Did the ending of Braveheart bother anyone? The fact that they didn't show anything but the big hook in the executioner's hand make it that much worse. Of course, they had him drawn (but not fully quartered) first.

28 Days Later. I just had a nasty taste in my mouth the whole time watching it. It was just unpleasant. And then the ending happens. Just a "get me out of here" feeling, which I suppose would translate as disturbing.

Plus I didn't like that they corrupted my favorite Brian Eno song by putting it in a scene... (song called An Ending (Ascent) )
