Muguruza to win Australian Open

When Garbine Muguruza first emerged onto the scene beating Serena at the French 2 and 2, big things were expected of her. After a great 2015 season things were looking up, but at the start of 2016 she looked drained mentally, losing first round after first round until the French rolled around and she went and won the whole thing. Before winning Wimbledon, she was also struggling immensely. I believe that Garbine plays her best when nobody expects anything from her, and I’m getting a feeling that she will win the Australian Open.

I think this will more or less be the pattern for her entire career. Almost like a female Stan but even less consistent outside of the slams in which they peak. It'll be fascinating to see how she's remembered if she ends up with 5 or 6 slams but has intermittent, extended periods of bad form throughout her slam-winning window.

Muguruza has been #1 (4 weeks), Wawrinka never was #1. And still, I totally agree that Stan has been far more consistent. Muguruza is the most inconsistent 2 Slams winner in the history of tennis (men's or female's tennis).

Mary Pierce is also a contender for that title - look at her yearly rankings.
