My Game is broken.... help please!!!

I've been using the Babolat Pure Drive Teams on and off for about 5 years now (tried using many other racquets along the way but keep coming back to the PDs) and I can't keep the ball in the court. I hit EVERYTHING long... I've tried adjustings my string tensions, changing strings and everything is just long...long...long!

I don't have a fast swing so moving to a heavier more control orineted stick won't work- I don't think....

Currently I have one strung at 61 lbs w/ Wilson K Gut and another w/ Prince Syn Gut at 57 lbs....

Any thoughts?

Hit with more topspin. Powerful racquets are okay if you use good technique. Try that.

It's not the equipment. It's your technique, or lack of it. You need to add topspin to your repertoire. As such, your question more likely belongs to the Tennis Tips/Instruction section.

I think it IS your racquet

Well, I may be in the minority, but I think it IS your racquet. Do this, go demo a Babolat Pure Control. I was using the Roddick + and then the standard and was having the same problem. Pure Control, same weight, still lots of power, walla, balls go in.

Get a more control oriented racquet.... but the most important thing that you can do is to bend your knees and explode through the shot UP and OUT. bending your knees will allow you to generate more racquet head speed which will give you more topspin and a heavier ball.

What- you lost me?

haha okay okay maybe I was a bit vague. I was expecting you to say that there's no way you'd quit tennis. Therefore you would try to solve the problem. If racquets and tensions don't work, what will? Technique, and you need to work on that. What's wrong? I don't know, but you have to look at yourself and begin to pay attention to the little things in your swing, and you may begin to figure out EXACTLY what you're doing wrong. You can't guess. So if you said, "no, I will definitely not quit," then you need to put in th effort.

P.S: You are never "past lessons." I don't know why in the world you would ever think that. You are never too good for anything. never. YOu do not need to try a new racquet either. There are plenty of good people with the pure drive team. You don't need to worry about strings either. If you cant hit the ball in the court i'm beginning to doubt the credibility of these "high school/college" tennis. Do you mean you played tennis while in school or you played FOR the school? What level were you? No, you are not too strong for your racquets. If you think that's the case, go get a 25 inch long racquet, or shorter. You will feel an immediate lack of leverage, so you'll need all your "strength."

I played high school/ college tennis so I'm well past lessons... maybe I do need to try a new stick...

string suggestions?

LOL!

I call BULL! There is no way that you played on a real college tennis team - especially if you can't figure out why you're hitting long.

The racquets make little difference - I can hit very well using an over-sized teaching "tweeners" racquet, or a "players" frame...

p.s. - you're never too good for lessons!

hmm.. your pure drive's power is just too much for your strength if you couldn't control it. i suggest you minimize your backswings unless the ball is high above the shoulder coz your racquet is not ideal with your racquet, or if you still wanna put some power to it, add a lot, i mean a lot of topspins. make sure you bend your wrist in doing so too. now if you can't do that, i suggest you switch into a racquet that offers the best control, and a controlled power such as the wilson k-factors like the one that i'm using. and make sure you use strings that are control-friendly in a high tension. hope this helps

If you want to keep using thew racquet, then I suggest taking the ball as earlier as possible with as much topspin as you can withiout having to sacrifice any racquet-head speed.

It'll come, sooner or later.

I think it's the racquet, the Pure Drive is simply too powerfull. You can try to string it with a poly. That will kill all the power (that's what the pros do). If you can't handle the poly than you can switch to a lower power racquet like Prince O3 Tour or RDS 001 MP. These racquets aren't much heavier than the PD and they are very spinny like the PD so it should be an easy transition.

That response surprised me. I know a 5.5 player who takes lessons, works on his game, and attends Bolletieri every year. He NEVER stops working and the results show. I once played points against him and it was ridiculous!
