I was looking over Nadal's accomplishments, and while he has been breaking records, and he also being creating a string of new achievements that were never done before.

First man to win 80 plus straight matches on a single surface
First man to win a Masters 1000 title 8 times
First man to reach 25 Masters 1000 title wins
First man to win a particular slam 8 times
First man to win a slam for nine consecutive years and counting
First man to hold slams on three different surface at the same time
First man to hold slams on three different surface at the same time twice
First man to win the clay slam - MC, Rome, Madrid, RG
First man to win slams on three different surfaces in the same calender year
First man to win both the clay slam - MC Rome, Madrid and RG (2010) and North American HC slam - Montreal, Cincinnati and US Open (2013)
First man to have an undefeated streak on red clay (2010), Grass (2008), NA HC (2013) in a calendar year that lead to a slam win on that surface.

Those are just some from the top of my head, and those are no small feats. Have to say he is a trailblazer in his own right, and certainly does deserve to be called one of the greats of all time, ( I don't like saying GOAT, since I don't believe in one). Please don't turn this into Federer V Nadal V Djokovic. This is just about Nadal not being a one trick pony, or a player incapable of doing anything outside of clay.

Some these look "made up" to artifically inflate his accomplishments... "clay slam", "NA hardcourt slam", "undefeated streak on red clay (as opposed to blue and the green clay of Wimbledon) etc. I guess we should start distinguishing between blue, green, pink etc. hardcourts and their varying "types" of "hard" surfaces as well. Or maybe we can just call them "clay" surfaces with varying texture, density and "hardness", considering how slow they play these days. :p

About 80% of those feats have to do with clay. :?

And? Most of Federer and Djoko's feats have to do with HC.

If Nadal were a one trick pony, he wouldn't have won slams on all 3 surfaces in a year.

And if you'll notice, Nadal is doing amazing things on non-clay surfaces(I mean this year he replicated in summer HC season what he does on clay almost every year, why aren't Djokovic or Federer winning at least 2 clay MS + RG?).

Nadal replicated a feat not seen since 2003's Roddick by winning Canada,Cincy and USO and people STILL question his versatility. It's outstanding. You will rarely hear someone around here accusing Murray(to give one example) of not being a versatile player(with Andy not even having one clay MS final) yet Nadal, with 36 non-clay finals(42% of all his finals) is a one-trick pony.

Just for the record, shouldn't a true "North America (hardcourt) slam" include IW and Miami as well?

The US really has way too many masters. It's actually unfair.

Lol, I'd say don't bother. She's just a pathetically bitter Federer fanatic. It's only people like that who ever accuse Nadal of lacking versatility.

BTW, great thread Hitman, very much agree.

It really is ridiculous isn't it?

Lol, do some people really still think Nadal is a "one trick pony"? Have they been living under a rock for the last 5 years?

Which is not surprising considering the much greater propotional distribution of hard-court tournaments on the ATP-tour. Hence, the reason why Nadal's "clay" heavy resume is an anomaly.

that is precisely why it is not critical for him to start owning wtf.

there would be nothing left for the others to take.

clay warrior has his own astonishing records for the ages. some of them will be pretty much impossible to even approach, let alone break.

Youngest man to ever win the golden slam.....

Second man ever to win the golden slam

Youngest man to win all slam surfaces multiple times

Youngest man to ever beat Pat Cash ( nadal beat cash at age 14) :)

Wilander was a younger 24 when he won the 1988 US Open compared to Nadal when he won the 2010 US Open. Wilander was born in August 1964, Nadal in June 1986.

Did he win all surfaces multiple times at that age? Because I think he won the AO on grass?

Nadal won the AO and USO both on hc so that's multiple time for each surface
