I really feel sorry for Novak Djokovic that he didn't win RG. He is certainly a better clay courter then Stan. However, it's tough to say that Djokovic is greater than Stan at RG when Stan has a trophy, and that too he beat Djokovic to get it.

I am not saying Stan is better at RG. It's not black and white but with all due respect to Djokovic's records and the fact that he is really good there, history will consider Stan's achievement ahead of Djokovic's as long Djokovic doesn't win a trophy

Right now, Stan > Novak at RG.

One of them has actually won the tournament, and the other hasn't.
It's not about Novak or Stan specifically, I just don't get how someone who hasn't won the event can be said to be better at it than someone who has. :?

Also Nadal > Djokovic at the USO, but that's closer, because at least they've both won the tournament before.

And it isn't about having a "more balanced resume".
Of course Novak has a more balanced resume in both of the above situations, but compared to actually winning the event (ie. the reason they're there in the first place) it means little.

If Novak wins another USO, he pulls ahead based on finals, as they would then be 2-2 in what matters most.

IMO no amount of finals equals actually winning, but they're valuable as a tiebreaker and in an overall greatness resume can certainly be counted.

As for the poll, voted yes, although it really should be public.

Private polls encourage trollery, and also I like to know who thinks what. :)

no one cares about runner-up, only the winner is remembered. You were in the final five times, but only brought back the trophy one time. That's a big shame.

The answer is very clear here.

Why isnt the poll public?
Dunno, I didn't create it.
But I find it so TT-like that we having a serious discussion about when the decade started and who the best player in the US Open was this decade.
Who the f*** gives a s**t about defining that by decade? Why does it matter?

Because the answer differs depending on the result of that question. In one scenario there are 5 US Open titles with Nadal owning 2 of them. In the other scenario there are 4 US Open titles with 4 different champions.

Ah, I see.
Still don't see how it's important who's the best of the decade half way into the decade though

Why do mythical "GOAT" discussions matter? Why does anything on TTW matter, for that matter? This thread was spawned based on something that one particular poster said, and I wouldn't consider it out of place on a forum like this. I asked a simple question, now we know what people think about this issue and I have my answer :)

I admit, my mistake was not making the poll public. (And yes, there is this decade debate - it's interesting to see which side people are on in such discussions)

point well taken, I don't care about this specific decade debate, but I care about a lot of just as unimportant threads.
