Nadal: "I don’t count 2012 like a loss"

"I don’t count 2012 like a loss,” the left-hander said. “I was totally injured from my knee. I didn’t play anything for seven months. Last year I tried. I was not well enough. And this year, talking about my knee, I’m much better than last year. I lost today because my rival was playing better than me.”

The interesting part is, when he talked about his yesterday's match against Brown, he said: "“It was the worst draw possible against a player like this. It’s very difficult to talk about the match because I don’t know what to say. I didn’t play. My opponent always served over 200kph with his first and second serves. So, that can happen on this surface if you face an opponent like this."

But wasn't that the EXACT issue with Rosol in '12? Why then discredit him and attribute the loss only to the injury?

So what do you think?

Nadal fans don't you think like me that he played better against Rosol then against Darcis?

It wouldn't have mattered how good Nadal played. Whoever was facing Rosol that day was going to get beaten. I don't care if it was Federer on his best day. Rosol was in a zone we haven't seen on a tennis court in a very long time. That 5th set was absolutely inhuman.

Rosol stats versus Nadal
22 Aces
3 Double faults
67% 1st serves in
83% 1st serve points won
58% 2nd serve points won
79% Net points won
50% Break points won
65 Winners
29 Unforced errors
85mph Average Groundstroke Speed
114mph Top Groundstroke Speed

In the 5th set alone
20 Winners
2 Unforced Errors

In the final game. Three aces and a groundstroke winner for a hold at love.

Laver himself would have gotten beaten that day.

Yeah except 2007 Fed who was the same age as 2012 Nadal would have beaten Rosol in straights so there wouldn't be a 5th set.

Also, if 2007 Fed somehow played the "5th set Rosol' then it would simply be a longer set where Fed wins in the end since we have no tie break in 5th and since Rosol wasn't actually returning well. He wouldn't be able to break Fed and would eventually choke. Plus it was under closed roof where even 2012 Fed would own him not to mention 2007 Fed. Any way you look at it Fed wins.

I imagine Rafa is not looking forward to seeing Brown or Rosol's name early at W...while his haters are praying for it and getting their draw conspiracy posts ready if it doesn't happen

He got outplayed against Rosol. He may not have been 100% but Rosol played the match of his life. Whereas, in the Darcis match Nadal look disinterested like he didn't care about Wimbledon no more.

it works for Nadal, the confidence he always talks about in the interviews. Some of his opponents should think like that too if they want to beat him.

But not Federer.

Well, one thing common amongst Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic fans....

... they all feel that if their particular god was 100% on that day against Rosol... that their god would have won. Typical myopia.

IMHO, watching that match, nobody was beating Rosol that day. The guy was in the zone.

Fed has a very average 5th set record for a reason. Rosol FTW!

Lol. Never seen such a bad loser in the history of tennis. Unbelievable. The knee story is such BS.

He was also very keen to mention his AO loss at rg too stating he felt tennis was giving back to him what he was owed and he only lost because of his back. Still can't fathom why people like this guy. Sure he's a great player but acts like a dick with this kind of thing.

I guess we'll see how Nadal does this year. If Nadal doesn't make a dent, then he'll never be a force at Wimbledon again I think.

We'll see if he's able to work his way into form. My understanding is that the quads getting extra tried due to the low bouncing.

Rosol 2012 was extremely unconvincing, and Rafa had all the momentum going into the 5th Set until they shut the roof (which took 30 minutes).
Its not even remotely similar to the Brown match.

Well, match-up matters. Rosol is a type of player than can hurt Nadal on his good days. I don't think he can play the same game as succesful against Federer. So, no, I'm pretty convinced most versions of Fed beat that Rosol, unless he was very ****ty.

But then, there are players who can hurt Fed, but don't have a prayer against Nadal.
