Thank you, JBlake for acknowledging Rafa's greatness on clay. People are usually very quick to point out how different AO is from USO (just 2 quote a couple of HC CC) but nobody points out under how different conditions the clay tournaments are played...& Rafa dominates them all

“Rafa pumping his fist always positive, no matter what the score is, he’ll be doing that. ...You’d like to teach kids that same attitude, every pt be positive be aggressive. He’s not smashing racquets. He’s frustrated w/himself but just w/himself &moving on”- J Blake (at S1 1-3)

What happened with his serve?
It is atrocious.
His percentage of first services has dropped a bit, he commits many more double faults than before, and still is not a weapon to damage his rivals.
Not to mention his forehand, many of these fall short, he commits many unforced errors, in the match with the Italian, he ended up having more than his rival.
And his mentality, frightening, after being broken at the end of the first set, seemed the opposite of a bull, a frightened lamb that succumbed to the attacks of his adversary without showing signs of reaction.
He's going to have to improve a lot if he wants to raise trophies on the clay, especially if he wants to get to the point for RG.

Go talk about Djokovic in his own threads.

That's actually quite nice

I remember they did something similar after playing Roger at Wimbly
The family is pretty special and they've always treated the other players and their families like that. It just never gets written about like anything the saintly lord Federer does. And the other players have great respect for Rafa too, just like Muller, but of course that never gets talked about in the press either.

nadal don´t seems confident and healthy...thinks that he won´t play the planed clay shedule and i can´t see him as the favorite for the titles at this moment.

last two years he was so strong on clay....

Rafa: "There are other things that matter, besides winning, and that today haven't been achieved. In the end, when we win, we all tend to deceive ourselves a bit and see things more positive [than they really are].

Though, by winning, the most positive thing is that the next day there's another chance and if you lose, you don't have it. It hasn't been a pleasing match, but the best thing has been that I've found a way to keep on going ahead.

My attitude has been more or less the right one, despite the feelings, which were not good, and with attitude I've worked to try to go on.

Alex: "When he's had BP at *4-3 in the 2nd set, have you seen the match in danger?"

Rafa: "All the matches are in danger, specially when you lose the 1st set. At *4-3 in the 2nd set, with BP & a return that was out by little, anything could've happened. But it's also true that in the 2nd set, or even in the 1st, there have been many opportunities.

In the 2nd set, to go up double break. In the 1st set, serving for the set, I've had a terrible game. Then I've had SP on his serve & I've hit a horrible FH to the net. When you don't take your chances, it's quite usual that the matches get more difficult."

Alex: "Finally, it's not easy to talk about the next match when you've just finished yours, but will the match against Ferrer be different emotionally?"

Rafa: "Well, obviously, it's always a lovely match against a very good friend and one of the best players this sport has had in the last 10-12 years. It's true that it'll be a bit special because this is will be David's last Godo tournament.

But he'll be a very demanding opponent, as he's shown today with his very good match against Pouille, and I'll have to improve."

Alex: "Very important victory for you, but first the acknowledgement for a person who today was playing his last match in Barcelona & has been able to show such a high level... it says a lot about David Ferrer"

Rafa: "In the end, it's his personal decision, as tennis wise he should not go anywhere. He looks ready to keep on playing, w/o a doubt. Though it's true that perhaps he's gone thru a tough 1 year & a half, w/some injuries & not playing at his current level, which is high again.

He hasn't been seeded, with tough draws & yet he's been able to win very good matches. Anyway, it's his decision and after the many years he's been fighting for, giving us all so much joy, he deserves whatever he decides."

Alex: "Today, it looked like conditions were easier and I don't know if the fact that you and David know each other very well helped or not, but from outside you seemed to feel much better..."

Rafa: "Well, in the end it's more about me than the rival. I mean, it was me who had to make a big improvement. Yesterday's was a very tough match for me... tough, not only score wise, but in general. I had to take a step forward and I have achieved it.

In the end, this was an important match for me, beyond what it meant for David and for the history of this tournament, where he's been a very important player. For me, personally, it was important to take a step forward and play with an energy & attitude different from yesterday, which I think I've been able to achieve and thus I'm going to the hotel much happier."

Alex: "We really appreciate your honesty, Rafa. Thank you very much!"

anybody noticed that rafa is back to his 2018 service motion? i think he is.

Didn't notice. He serves much better than he did in Monte Carlo though, this is a sure thing.

Great match point, but still nothing special in the whole performance.
I can see him pulling through and winning the tournament, but he doesn't look pleased with his level just now.

He is playing a bit better. I'm pretty sure this version of Nadal would have won against Fognini in Monte Carlo. Thiem is going to be a big challenge though.

Oh crap.Rafa is so unlucky. He skipped his practices and his pre-tournament press conference on Sunday. Now he's canceled again today. Apparently he has a stomach malady and is resting and trying to recuperate. I hope he feels better on Wednesday but then he always struggles if he hasn't had enough practice. What a bummer. :(

Rafa’s press conference postponed again. Was supposed to be yesterday, then today at 12.30 and now we’re told either later today or it’ll be tomorrow. Hope this stomach issue isn’t going to spoil his week here... Sigh.
