"MADRID, Spain (AP)—Spain’s Davis Cup captain Albert Costa says Rafael Nadal “is worried” about his constant injuries.

“He is worried about his physical state, but he’s working every day to get better,” Costa said Wednesday.

Nadal will be sidelined for Spain’s Davis Cup match against Switzerland next week. Nadal and top-ranked Roger Federer will miss the best-of-five series on March 5-7.

Another serious knee injury forced Nadal out of the Australian Open in January. Federer had announced earlier he would not play Davis Cup, and pulled out of the Dubai Championships because of a lung infection on Sunday.

Nadal has been plagued by injuries since November 2008, when tendinitis in his knees forced him to miss Spain’s Davis Cup win over Argentina. The 23-year-old Nadal missed several months last summer because of knee problems after the French Open, where he failed to lift the trophy for the first time in five years.

“Until last year at Roland Garros and the problems, he had achieved everything,” Costa said. “It’s normal, after 22 years and winning everything, to have some down time.”

It's normal for a 22 year old to have some down time? This should be the prime of his career...He won everything? hardly....Maybe it's I can take losing...so now I have injuries for excuses....Face it Nadal your awesome...your great....but there's always a new kid on the block waiting to take you down.....maybe just maybe all your injuries are from your unique "training" on Fantasy Island.....amazing how fast you lost your muscle mass the last 6 months......the truth will come out someday....

Nadal didn’t win the AO this year, and that’s what is bothering him. When he win, he’s not thinking about injury! It’s not that he played bad tennis at the AO, but Murray was the reason why he lost. If you put Nadal this year back in 2009, he would have made the final! Murray >> Verdasco.

But then why didn't Nadal take time off after losing the Wimbledon finals to Fed in 2006? Or in 2007? What about when he lost to Del Potro in the US Open Semis?

Last I heard Nadal was seeking psychiatric help from a therapist, seems hes been having a reoccurring nightmare of a scott beating him unmercifully and extreme anxiety about playing on court again.

Why don't you check their H2H first and abuse Nadal thereafter?

Costa has to try to pump up his fragile DC star...winning everything as though America didn't exist. But it didn't exist for Costa either, in truth. This is Nadal's M.O. His knee is fine, but his coaches are all worried. His knee is fine last week, but this week he's worried. His knee was fine down under, and then he forfeits, and he's concerned. Emilio Sanchez was concerned...about Nadal's style of play, lagging hours on court, and lack of winner production. And he's not their DC coach anymore because of it.

:lol::lol:

That's where Fed was headed....but he dropped 10lbs and regained a lot of his quickness.....or maybe you didn't notice his forehand is back to normal...instead of the way he was spraying it during his minor slump...At least Fed played through his problems.....maybe you can help me out...has Fed ever quit in the middle of a match?.....not that I can recall....

Nadal has been beaten fair and square since his "return". He was playing high level tennis at the AO10 and Murray beat him fair and square. Same with Davydenko beating him. There is no issue on his losses.
I tend 2 agree if he was playing Verdasco instead of Murray he gets through to the final.

People like you, who think that they can see into the future, are ridiculous.

If Nadal feels that he can't play because he's in pain, he stops. What's the problem? Do you know how many players do that? Youzhny retired during a match at the Australian Open and again at Rotterdam. This doesn't seem to bother you too much. Djokovic retired many times from matches. Del Potro too and many others. If you don't like it, stop watching tennis or just follow the mighty Federer and ignore the other "quiters".

U seem so angry. Not sure why. Nadal has mostly dominated TMF. Beat him on 3 of the greatest stages. Leads the H2H and has gotten into Rogers head. And if they meet again Nadal should in all likelyhood have the upper hand once again. The pressure is all on Fed.

You should be happy! Smile!
