Just an incredible journey to the finals - she has beaten 4 former world #1 or #2 in straight sets on her way to the final.

Only 20 years old and a future WTA star for sure. On Serena Williams` footsteps?

R128 Sharapova 6-4 6-4
R64 Radwanska 6-3 6-2
QF Pliskova 6-2 6-3
SF Halep 6-3 6-0

Kasatkina has beaten 4 GS winners (Stevens, Caro, Angi and Venus) and 3 former No 1s

It's great for a 20 year old and has been tested by Caro and Venus by very close matches. Osaka has had an easy ride so far and will be interesting to see who will prevail.

I was at the Pliskova match and it was just a complete beatdown. Osaka is very impressive. I'm stunned she's an underdog in the final.

I'm rooting for Kasatkina. She is like a hybrid between Federer and Djokovic, such a unique style. Osaka is just another lesser version of Serena, just power and fitness.

Ksatkina is the only woman since Henin making me even watch WTA. PLUS SHE DOESN'T GRUNT!!!

Really? Idk about that. She seems to defensive for me.
It's not that bad. But he plays so smart and has variety, without grunting and moves gracefully and her technique is so great. So I'm willing to overlook her slight inclination to defence.

Hey, she is just 20, you know. Fed was a bit too defensive at age 20 too. Imagine how she will develop in next four years entering her prime.

Let's hope she doesn't disappoint, but I won't let my hopes up.

That's what I thought too, another version of Wozniacki. A defensive oriented patient player.

If you's watch her matches, you'd see that she's not defensive when she needs it. Her favourite shot jump backhand is hardly a defensive shot. She's very measured, and her ability to change and vary the game depending of what her current need is, is really something.

Yeah, I think she is the real deal. Didn't she beat four grand slam champions in a row just now?

Osaka is certainly a sleeper champ in the making to bagel an AO18 finalist.

Nope, she just works over a point into her favour before pulling the trigger unlike the many WTA players who seem to be trying to pull the trigger on every shot. Actually, Kasatkina's style is what WTA would look like if they played like the men. She hits IO forehands a lot too.

The last game against Halep was more about halep than Osaka..absolutely horrendous from Halep...if she does not change her attitude she will remain slamless..

Slam contender this year for sure.
She should apply for us citizenship because she has been here for the last 15 years or more.

She is a US citizen as well. But chooses to play for Japan. Probably better sponsership opportunities

Horrible final all around. Both were nervous but Osaka could hold her nerves better. Samurai girl!

That final was so must see. To have two youngsters who had both gotten a big win, and then backed it up, and then backed it up again, and then backed it up again rather than just failing to follow up the first the way we see so many times was amazing. The danger was always going to be that one would falter at this final stage, and Kasatkina really sort of did. Osaka was amazing though, swinging away, and smothering depth. What a performance.

Hopefully she's got the guts to build on it in a similar way that Ostapenko did following her big win last year.

The women's final was great! Both players smothered the competition all the way to the final. Naomi was great!

So now, is Osaka a threat to win a Major this year ?? looks like she can. Which major will she win this year ?
US or Wimbledon. Not sure if she has the patience to win the French. But I see her winning at least one or two more titles through the year. I'd say Finals at the two slams I mentioned. Don't think she will win them this year unless she gets help in the draw...but I sincerely hope she stays healthy.

She might not make it pass the first round of the next tournament. Did you see who she drew in the first round at Miami? Serena.

And if she wins that she'll have to face #4 Elina Svitolina.

Yes, definitely a contender at slams. Her path to the IW18 title is harder than many slams. 2 former #1s, the current #1, 1 former #2.

And she won the title winning 7 matches, like a slam, but with less rests in between matches.

After Osaka win at IW; she just move up only "22" places and is now at 22 in the world! Not bad for two weeks of work and she get a $million dollar for her effort too of course! Endorsements are going be coming fast and furious if she does well in Miami Open!

Yes. Dual citizenship.

Not for much longer as Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship for adults. She has to choose one country by the age of 22. Before winning IW, she probably would have got away with it as no checks are done by the authorities. But now she's famous, the media will be doing their own checks, especially after the leader of the opposition was recently discovered to be a Taiwanese citizen.

Who knows, she may choose to play for the US. Serena is her favorite player after all.

Osaka got $ 1.34 M for her win ( Daria as runner up: $ 654 k ).

Naomi had already 2 major sponsors : Adidas and Nissin.
