Need New Racquet Help!!!

Ive been playing tennis for about a year now and seeing that i've improved i feel like i need a better racquet. My current racquet is the Prince tt scream os. I like it but its not heavy enough not so stable and overall doesnt suit me enough now that ive improved. Im a heavy baseliner who relies on lots of topspin. im looking for a racquet atleast 11 oz, not to hard on the arm so a flex rating below 65 would be nice and a nice swingweight around 320 with room for customization. Thanks for your help.

Since you probably want an OS frame, how about the Donnay OS? It's 12 oz, so it might be a little heavier than you want, but it's very head light, flexible, and at a great price. The reviews are good.

ive actually thought about that since its very spin friendly but at maximum i dont want a huge 110 headsize again. preferably i want to go midplus to a max os of about 107 which the donnay is. but i read its got grommet issues and looks like a hot pink in the sun, plus i heard it has vibration issues, also some people believe the review to be bias, since its a tw racquet. so i dont really know about this one but ill definately keep it an option

Prince TT Warrior, MP or OS. Its not harsh on the arm at all. the MP is 98, and the OS is 107 (i would lead this up if you go with the OS). I played with it for a very long time and it served me very well. I hit heavy topspin and stick to the baseline (refer to my username). I recommend demo-ing some sticks first though.

The Donnay has no vibration issues. I played with the pro1 MP and it feels literally like butter. Lots of flex (a bit too much for my taste though). Nice weight, but most of its in the handle so its maneuverable. Only thing is the handle is short (the part your hand holds onto) so if you use a 2 handed backhand, your nondominant arm might be holding some throat. Not an issue, but a bit weird.

Both sticks are sub 100 on TW.

Dunlop M-Fil 200 Plus. 27", 97 sq. in 16x19, 64 flex, 11.4 oz, 7pts HL, $69.95 from TW.

What did I miss?

:)

I have two. I've grown with these racquets. I have them all Pb'd up and balanced a bit differently and am very happy with them. They are very customizable but are fine in their stock form.

(However, I am using my newly discovered 80's Head Graphite Edges only these days)

yeah i noticed those to, how do you have them pb'd up as i might buy these since the open string pattern and good price. my only issue is were could i get extra grommets. i dont break grommets but nice to have an extra pair incase some freak miss. thanks.

I'll have to check my notebook at home for exact measurments but from memory: 1/4oz in handle(fishing weights), 1/2 oz. on both sides of throat just above handle, and I did something in the head, but can't remember if I liked the 3&9 or 6&12...like I said I have played solely with my Edges since I got them a few weeks ago. Poor Dunlops have sat untouched. :(

I used the calcualator online for adding weight and adjusted from there.

Oh, grommets...I have Frankengrommets in one of my Edges. i just cut up a new grommet strip and used individuals...

I'll probably do something similar for the Dunlops, if/when needed. I haven't gone searching yet since i haven't had a need. I figure the Edge grommets are NEVER going to be seen again and I found a way around that little problem...I can do it again. ;)

Yeah, i think this narrows down my search alot so the dunlops will definately be an option thanks for letting me know your setup ill have to mess around with the racquettech swingweight and balance calculator. thanks.

try the head liquid metal radical midplus, its hella cheap and its really good. I just got mine and its pretty solid!

yes but is it spin oriented? im a heavy baseliner who relies on topspin so im assuming since this is a 18x20 string pattern it wont give as much topspin as needed. Plus i heard the very sharp octogonal grip shape is uncomfortable.

the comfort on the grip shape varies from person to person. i personally enjoy it. the lm radical gives decent spin for a dense pattern, but if you really want a lot more topspin, why dont you try the radical pro or prestige pro?

You know I thought the same thing with the tight string pattern, but I have a pair of flexpoint radicals i picked up on the cheap, and they felt pretty good. I think I used a smaller grip on them though (1/4 as opposed to my 3/8), and the smaller grip equates to quicker racquet turnover and more spin.

Too many little factors to consider, thats why demoing is always best!

I second the Warrior selection, and lean heavily towards a leaded OS. They play pretty nicely stock, and as your game progresses, you can add lead to get some more authority and feel. I have mine modified to be 27", 11 points headlight and 13.0 in weight, and the spin and weight is pretty sweet. I string them at max+5 with PSGD 18 and though I only get 3-4 sets out of this setup, I string my own and it's cheap to replicate. Plus, at just $69.99 new, they're a steal.

I agree. This is a great stepping stone type of stick. It was the first that I used when I began getting "serious" about hitting....and after trying about 10 others, I went back to it for a season. I still have a few, even though I prefer something else NOW.

Good for spin, control, and depending on string/tension, a good amount of power.

Ok so i've narrowed it down to a few racquets, i tried out my friend lm radical it was solid but didnt produce enough topspin to keep some of my heavy hits in. So with that said i've got it down to the Dunlop m-fil 200 and a racquet i've read about thats a bit under the radar but supposedly supurb to users, The Fischer Magnetic Tour ( Heavy ), i want to go with something heavy because im big about 6ft and have no problem swinging 12.5oz racquets for a whole match as long as my arm is comfortable, so i'd prolly pb up the magnetic tour with some lead at 10,2,and 12 o'clock to hit around 350 swingweight and 12.0+ oz... Let me know what you guys think, or anyone who can verify some of what ive heard about the magnetic tour. Thanks.

Penn shredder: I have used the Fischer Magnetic Tour for the last 2 years and absolutely love it. It's a lot better with pb as you mentioned but where you put it is strictly a personal feel. I have it at 3 and 9 and then some in the handle as a counterbalance. Total weight is about 326g or 11.5oz. I'm only 5'10" and a bit older so I can't swing a bigger stick like the younger guys can. This setup works for me. What I really love about the Fischer is the buttery feel from the flexible frame. Shots are very predictable but the power is low which is good for taking a bigger cut at the ball. This is for sure an underrated racquet and can be customized so many ways. I have tried gamma strings (decent), gut strings (wow-but expensive), and will check out a hybrid the next go around. Slightly above mid tension seems to work really well for bigger hitters. If you swing hard, definitely go up to 58-60 lbs and avoid gut like the plague. I tried 58 lbs and it's too tight for me with the exception of gut. I have full gut at 62lbs and it's just about perfect. I'll cringe when my string breaks but until then I'm smiling at the beautiful song my stick sings when I swing away.
I have tried out the Dunlop 4d 300 and it's also a pretty good swing but not as flexible feeling as the Fischer. Yonex is also pretty good but some guys can't get over the chick stick stigma.
