New Asics Court FF 2

This shoe fits my foot (half size down) better than any shoe I have ever worn. However, I have noticed lately that my hips and knees ache more after playing. I put it off on the competition being better and me moving more. It dawned on me that I had been wearing the FFs exclusively. I am going to go out and play with an older pair of Prince t22 lites that I have. If I feel better....bam, another shoe bites the dust. I just ordered that white pair on clearance too. If my experiment gives me the previously stated results, they will be going back. I hope it does not.

I forgot to give a quick update on these. They felt ok walking around the house with a very thin sock on. However, with a tennis sock on which is naturally thicker, they felt a bit too tight(9.5UK). I tried the 10UK and I felt they were a bit too big...more so on my right foot(I've a broad foot), so I ended up returning them and got the Asics Court Speed instead(10.0UK), which seem to fit great thus far.

I played 3 sets on hard court today. Now I did not have to move as much as I was playing an opponent who I can handle easily but I feel no worse for the ware. I will play a tougher opponent Friday and wear these old Princes again. If I feel better than last Monday, I am sending back the white and green FFs I just bought on clearance. Problem is that the prince shoe always bothers my right toes. I guess there is too much room and my feet move in them. So strange but I guess that mushy feel from the prince protects me more. I hate it because these FFs fit great.

I am curious about this!!!
Now that you've mentioned, I played Adidas Barricades since 2006 and switched to FF2 earlier this year and:
- my hips and lower back feel very stiff and painful
- both of my knees are out of whack and I have to have the left knee meniscus surgery
May be a coincidence, however, it all coincided with the shoe switch...

I can tell you for sure that the Gel Res 6 bothered my knee. I know because I switched to it and away from it and symptoms left. These FFs feel pretty cushiony to me but I am thnkng that my body likes more cushion than they provide. Another shoe that I liked was the nike zoom zero but now that I have played in that one a bunch, I am between sizes hopelessly. I fnd that the Prince shoe aggrivates my toes on the lateral side of my right foot. Its like my feet move too much in them. Only other shoe I have tried that seemed to be similar was the Diadora blue shield fly 2 but that shoe had almosst no arch support and was wide in the forefoot. I may try that one a half size down and see. I am certain that I will be sending the FF2's back and just use the ones I have for game day matches maybe. Damn shame.

playtest done...Old t22 lites help me more than zoom zero and ff2. That simple. played hard matches in all three and surprisingly, I was really sore after using the zooms. Probably should be in a 10,5 instead of a 10 but no matter....played today in a long match with worn out t22 lites and am FAR less sore. I guess somethng about that shoe and its cushionin g like my body. Will get two pairs and move on.

I had the exact same experience. I’ve switched now to Nike air Zoom Zeros and I have no problem.

The issues with the knees and hips may not be due to the cushion as much is the stability issue. My feeling is that the shoe might be a little weak on the medial arch support. Do you happen to have flat feet?

I don't think I have flat feet, however, I do believe the fit and support of Adidas is completely different from the Asics

Absolutely. While the ASICs is definitely more comfortable and easier to move in, the Adidas is the benchmark in terms of stability, durability, and support.

I've been wearing the original FF shoes for the past 2 years now in 11.5 US. I tried the Gel Resolution (not sure if it was 6 or 7) and I was a size 11US in that one so you have some idea of sizing.

I wear the FF1 double socked and the fit is snug along the midfoot area but comfortable. I love the fact that it fits like a glove and sometimes I have to remind myself to tie my shoelaces because the fit is perfect as if the laces were tied!

I just tried the FF2 in 11.5 US (also double socked) and it felt noticeably less form fitting and clunky (boot like). I still had room in the front of the toebox, but the shoe didn't feel like glove at all. I tightened up the shoe laces and hit for 2 sessions of 1.5 hours each, and I felt like the shoe was still big on my feet. They tight shoe laces actually bothered the top of my foot. I can tell that if the fit was right, it would feel like a durable and overall supportive shoe (especially around the midsole), and are even lighter than the original FF. Cushioning was still great though.

My next thought is so perhaps go down a 1/2 size and try that. Although I have a few extra boxes of the original FF left so may not for some time. Hope this helps!

I've been using the solution speed ff for a few months now and I like them but durability is meh. Considering the FF2 given all the amazing reviews but wondering if durability is better? And comfort?

Don't mind the red...the green is a bit too "Irish green" for me. Still waiting for any reasonable sale on these shoes -- they've been out almost a year and I still haven't found anything reasonable. Oh well....

Agreed. Every now & then I find a "decent" sale (e.g., under $100), but then I look and see 'Size 6.5 only'. Sometimes ASICS has sales on their site, and I've gotten some great deals on the Nimbus running shoe ($68 this past holiday season), but the Court FFs never seem to be included in the sale.

Asics website had them for $90 on black friday. I loved the ff but the ff2s are not as good for me. I never tried the gel resolutions but the 8 looks like my next shoe once on sale.

Yes, I saw that...except there were none in my size. I was about to pull the trigger on 10.5 (my normal size), until a friend mentioned that they tend to run large. I came to this thread and saw that was the consensus, went back to the site...and no size 10.

Slightly off topic, but I'm curious how often you guys buy shoes online and end up sending them back after finding out they don't fit well or you just didn't like the feel? I've done this to about 3 shoes so far in the past couple months and still haven't found ones that were satisfactory to me, and I'm feeling bad that I keep making TW eat the shipping costs...

Damn, didn’t even think to look there. Thanks for the heads up - will keep track if their pricing from now on

It's the nature of internet shopping that there will be a lot of returns; it's just inevitable that not all shoes or clothes will fit the first time around. Undoubtedly, TW factors this into their pricing - they'd be out of business if they didn't. As long as you don't abuse it, you shouldn't have any problems. Yesterday I ordered 2 pairs of Court FF's in different sizes. Hopefully one pair will fit me so I'll only have to send one pair back. If I like the shoes, then I'll know what size to order in the future. If neither pair fits then I'll have to try again with something else. The first pair of NB Lavs fit me perfectly so I didn't have to return those, but the Cage 3's obviously didn't fit in any size and those went back. I'd say I return about half the shoes I order until I get the fit right and then after that no returns until I find a new style I want to try.

I've done it a couple times only because I couldn't find the right shoe size.. yeah I felt bad about it too but after like the third time reordering, I've finally got the right size haha.
Nike sizing is different from Adidas/Asics sizing or each model it's different .. if that made any sense.

Bought the Novak Court FFs today. Here are my thoughts:

Tried both 10.5 and 11. In "regular" Adidas shoes like Stan Smiths, I'm a 10.5. In Barricades, more often than not, I was an 11. For the Novak Court FF, I went with 11 because the 10.5 was snug (no pinching that I noticed standing in them) but I figure it'd be too snug when actually playing. 11 is a bit long (not a bother at all) but the width fit me better. I'm one of the better movers in our local 5.0 tour (now transitioning to the 9-10 UTR Tour, doesn't have the same ring). For better context, I'm a:

- 10.5 in Sole Court Boosts
- 11 In Speed FF
- 10.5 in Gel Res 7

Would anybody be able to compare these to the gel res 8? I love the gel res 8 but I really want to try the traction. The thing I’m worried about though is fit and durability. I’ve heard they have good durability but no sole warranty, so I’m hoping they last. I am not hard on my shoes so I’m hoping this could be my next shoe, especially with the outsole and Flytefoam.

edit: btw I’m a 10 in the wide gel resolution 8. I wear thorlos but with the 10 wide gel res I can wear one pair of normal socks and have a good fit.

Court FF2 has a slightly wider and longer fit than the gel res 8. I’m TTS in the res and 1/2-size down in the FF2. Your true size might give you enough space, as there’s more volume in the toe box and a little bit more width. Is it a 2e? No. But with free returns from TW, it’s worth a shot.

More slip out of the traction if you want it from the FF, but I never felt unstable. The res 8 slides well when you want it to, and the FF2 made me feel like I was on skates at times, but in a good way. I was never not in control in the FF2.

I balded the tread on the FF2 faster than on the res8 but wore through to the foam in about the same amount of time. Maybe a 5-hour difference? Foam held up quite well in both.

I've been ordering shoes from TW for over a decade and never sent a pair back, so you can have my returns. ;)

Just bought my first pair of FF2’s. I am usually a size 10 in all shoes but the 10’s in the FF2 were just too long. Went with the 9.5’a and they are very snug. I’m hoping after a few hours on court they will loosen up a bit.

I know many others on here went down a half size like I did, wondering if any that did experienced an initial snug/tight feel only to have it loosen up after a break in period.

I came from size 10 court FF to size 10 FF2 and they fit similarly. I use 10.5 with adidas shoes FYI.

The FF2 has a slightly roomier toe box and a stiffer upper over the toes, so I am using simple cedar shoe trees to expand the upper slightly to prevent toe corns.

In all I think I prefer the FF slightly more than the FF2 but both are great shoes.

Oh -- it definitely works. I have used them in my court FF shoes as well (I have 3 pairs of those and 2 of the FF2). The best way to do it is, after playing, pull the insoles out and let them dry. Put the cedar trees in the shoes as they are drying for best effect. If you don't want to do that, just leave the cedar trees in them in between uses. The stretch they impart is minor but real and works to take a well fitting shoe to a great fitting shoe.

And just to clarify my prior comment -- the front portion of the toebox is bigger on the FF2 but the portion above your toes is tighter and the material is stiffer. Also important to note is that I do not use the OEM insoles...the minute I get these shoes I swap them out for Kiwi Sport Soles, which are cheap and get the job done much better than the paper thin Asics insoles. I also wear pretty reasonably padded socks -- Thorlos VRMU Edge.

Thank you. Seems like the perfect way to create a 9.75 shoe.

I think my feet just don’t work with either size. I am going to sell them. I have two pairs of 9.5’s, burgundy/white and the new mako color. I have two 10’s in burgundy/white and white/royal blue.

I have only worn them in my house. They have never touched the outdoors or a court. I’m selling them all for $125 except the Mako for $140.

I am in the Minnesota. (Twin Cities)

I have completely changed my mind. Once ingotmintonthenrigntnsizenof Zoom Zeros, I have realized that other then breathability, they are the most comfortable cushioned shoes I have ever played in. Had to go with the regular size and trust the stability instead of sizing down. There is no comparison to me. Zoom Zeros are far better for my joints.

Will court FF 2 loosen up after the break in period? I found my regular size a bit too long but half size down is a bit too tight. if it does not loosen up, I may need to return the shoes. any help is greatly appreciated.

How's the arch support in this shoe? I have a very high arch and the original FF was a shoe I really liked for the most part except that it really didn't have much of an arch at all, seemed more for flat midfooters.

And anyone know if any new colorways are due out anytime soon?

played my first 3 sets today in the FF2's and they're not as comfy/cushiony/plush as the FF1's. they're a tad narrower and my feet were a bit sore (never had break-in issues with the FF1's), but i suspect they'll break-in nicely with a few more hours of play and the soles feel ALOT more durable with more rubber in the toe dragging area.

the sock liner isn't as plush/enveloping (much easier to slide on) and the all plastic uppers, which also detract from comfort, make it feel designed more for stability, durability, and extreme performance on hard courts. so far i think it's worth the trade-off as going through 3 pairs of FF1's every year due to the toe area wearing out so fast really sucked. FF1 with FF2 soles would be the perfect shoe for me.

Update: Pretty much the same initial impressions I had from last year and I'm still experiencing some foot soreness after play, unlike with the FF1s. The amazing level of comfort and cushioning simply aren't there (the tongue area cushioning is esp. thin compared to the FF1s) but the soles are way more durable and the shoe will last a lot longer. I wear the same size in both models.

I finally managed to play since quite a while and the shoe was exactly as I remembered.
I usually wear size 9.5 (barricades and gel res) but for FF2 I'd definitely go 0.5 smaller (I also, had to do that with some other asics shoes like kayano 25 or gel quantum 360 5). I have narrow feet with low arches and my right foot is slightly shorter than left and the fit is as close to perfection as it gets (with normal insoles and without foot scanning). Laces are a bit slippery, but because of the sock like construction you barely feel them, thugh I'd prefer if they were stiffer, as they hang down a bit too much. The only major problem is the plastic on the sides. It hurts my left ankle and makes a spot on the right one as well, but I didn't feel it on that one during or after play. Had the same issue with gel res 7. I also don't like how logos are a "sticker" instead of being paintes, but that's a minor cosmetic issue. The weight of the shoe is a bit more in the heel compares to the gel res, but thay didn't bother me too much. The best thing about them (maybe except the fit) is the comfort-stability combo. Could be just me but when I first heard of the shoes I thought it was more of a speed-type one (in my mind, asics stabilty shoe = gel res) which I'm not a big fan of, but first reviews already put my mind on ease. This is definitely stability based shoe, but it also feels lighter and easier to move compared to others in that category. Very easy to slide in as well. Most cw's are also released with clay outsole which I (and probably most of EU players) greatly appreciate. There's also more non-Novak colours with guys like Coric (and perhaps soon Murray) wearing the shoe, so if someone really doesn't like ND they can also consider this model. Shame that they are one of the most expensive shoes on the market (usually around 110 EUR on sale), though I managed to get a pair for 75 (and two newest green and red ones for 180 in total). Gel res 8 can drop to 70 area in comparison. Now I just need to track down the blue ones from AO19, thankfully the other ones are nowhere near as limited.

Don’t know why the stycon would be on there, sales are probably low compared to the others on the list.
