New Murray Interview With Washington Post

Of course it did, otherwise it hadn't been made into gifs. :p

Novak actually played a perfect volley that just cleared the net but Murray's save was out of this world. I remember Rafa played a similarly ridiculous point vs Soderling at Wimby 2007 but this is even better.

A bit better view here:

Trouble is every time I look at the videos the ball looks like it landed out to me so I guess I will have to take your word for it! :)

Why so cynical?

Of course it kissed the line. I thought the gifs should make it clear?

But if this helps you sleep a little bit better at night (~@1:15'): :p

Cheers. ;)

No, I wasn't being cynical, I just can't see it from the vids (the ball always looks like it landed out to me) but of course it must have landed in or there would be no point in making gifs of it like you say. I guess I would make a terrible linesman!

Naturally, I'm thrilled to bits that he won a point like that!! :)

"Murray, who held the No. 1 ranking for 41 weeks in 2017 but has since slipped to No. 29" - More accurate will be if they say Murray who vultured the No 1 ranking. It is good that Murray will return to professional tennis, hopefully he changes his style. If he wants to win GS titles he will need to do it

Every dog should have his bone.

Agreed, I don't like Muzz's style or his endless hand wringing to his box (or the constant grabbing of his thigh), but Andy is a great guy with a droll sense of humor. Some people here act like he's Hitler, Stalin and Mao rolled into one, it's just insane.

It's nice to hear Murray is coming back later this year. I hope he's able to return successfully and play long enough to end his career on his term rather than because of an injury. Good luck Andy!

Is it really "total BS"?

Murray hardly "dethroned" anybody. Novak was losing to absolute mugs come the time Murray started going on a "tear" and his competition was about as rough as that of today.

A lot of the dislike stems from the fact people act like he's an ATG-level player with 3 majors to his name (and they readily add sympathy majors to his total) without realizing he's incredibly lucky to have the 3 he has today.

Also, Kyrgios is a mug. That will be all.

Why is he lucky to have 3 slams + 2 gold medals? That’s bull.

I tend to remember those ridiculous points quite well and am a bit Rafa-like in my line calling in geneneral. :) And yes, I can see the ball was in. If you want I'll make a gif in slow motion so maybe you can see it a bit clearer.

Of course, by in, I mean, even this ball was "in": ;)

Love how idiots always include his near useless gold medals when talking about his accomplishments. Lol.

Murray's best level of play doesn't indicate he is someone who is capable of winning more. If anything he is lucky he got a mug like Raonic in a GS final and a horrible placid Djokovic. Every other time he made a GS final he was crushed because duh.... He isn't and never was good enough.

Oh bore off! He’s been the 4th best player in the world in the era of Fedalovic and his achievements reflect that.

None of the NextGen will ever be on Murray’s level.

Here we go with the "era of Fedalovic" crap again.

When Murray became No.1 he had virtually no competition. When he started winning slams, his ONLY competition was Djokovic.

When/if any of the NextGen win 4 majors they are automatically better/greater than Murray. :D

Sorry but Murray's 10 times the player those young instagram bums are ever gonna be. He may be overrated compared to historic ATGs but if he was 20 today sky would have been the limit for his slam count.

in what planet is this in?

In the planet where everyone on site could see that ball, which wasn't even fast or tricky, spinny by any means, hit right on the sweet spot.

Just watch the point from the video I poasted above. Novak didn't even attempt to challenge it. Everybody knew it.

Nah they wont be.Murray also have 14 Masters 1000 titles plus one YEC title. He will be better than them even if they win 4 Majors.

He’s a very good tennis player. You seem to be letting your dislike of him cloud your view.

For all sensible tennis fans, his achievements speak for themselves. In this era, 3 slams and 2 golds is great work. I’ll leave it there.

I’m interested. Who do you actually think is any good? Because stating someone’s ONLY competition was Djokovic, when said player is an acknowledged all time great, seems a bit strange to me. And Murray beat him twice in slam finals.

His only competition was Djokovic, meaning that that left a lot to be desired when it came to anybody before the final.

And when Murray beat Djokovic in two GS finals he was clearly hampered. He wasn't playing his best tennis. Whenever that occurred, Murray was crushed much like whenever he played Federer in a GS final.

Yeah he's good but he's not worthy of all the stuff that's said about him on here.

3 slams is good. Not ATG level good but probably the best of the rest.

He also beat him in 5 Masters finals and is the only player ever to beat him in a WTF final.

It will be a major plus for him if he can get past the 1st week.
He came back incredibly well after his back surgery-- he became #1 after that. As long as Muzz avoids a huge serving beast like Ivo, Nick or even vile Raonic in the first week, I think he could make the QF's at least. Why not with this weak field? At least he knows how to move and construct points on grass, which 80% of the rest of the tour couldn't do if their life depended upon it. Happy to see Andy back in the mix. Wish Lendl was back with him!

Anybody could have beaten Djokovic in that WTF final. A horrible performance from him.

MS titles gaining importance again because that's all Murray was good at winning.

Guess Michael Chang was a real world beater then.

That's the crux of the matter. If he can move as well as he did before the hip injury, he will do very well. Anything else will just be down to rust and lack of match practice. But recovery of movement is going to be crucial.

Murray played his best stuff in 2009-2012. He became no1 because he was the last declining rat standing. That WTF final was a horror show. Think there was about 5 winners in whole match.
