new shoes, can't decide

Hi everybody,

Its time for me to buy a new tennis shoes but I cannot decide which one to get. I am a 3.0 player and about to move up to 3.5, hopefully Although my shots may not be super consistent and solid, my biggest strength is my quickness on the court. I would like to get to ball no matter what.

I purchased my Asics Gel Resolution 5 shoes about 6 months ago. My feet are not wide at all, they may be even considered as narrow, I am not sure. Anyways, I did not need any break in period, I love the cushioning, foot support and how I feel inside them. 2 weeks ago, I had a doubles indoor match. I was on the baseline and fell down badly when I had to reach the drop shot. I was still able to hit the ball and won the point but the moment I hit the ball I was on the air (somehow first my right shoe felt locked while I was running and then it slid). As a result both of my knees, one of my arm and my right hip was bleeding. Everybody was shocked including me. After that I am very scared to run with my shoes. I am blaming my shoes that I fell down... Now I decided to get another pair of shoes. Since I have been playing decent with my resolution 5's I wanted to reorder them but Cannot find my size anywhere!! Meanwhile I was reading comments about resolution 6 and how slippery they are plus how they need a break in period... I have been also looking into Lunar 1.5's. Any of you tried both and can tell me if lunars have good foot support as well?
I also consider getting Adidas Ubersonics or asics SS2's for a light shoe option but all I want is to be able to be fast in the court and injury prevention (good foot support).

I am open to any kind of comments. Hope I am not very annoying ) I am not sure why I wrote too many details but anyways..... Thanks!

I was very pleasantly surprised with these shoes. Very comfortable, light, easy break in, and have actually been more durable than the "durability guaranteed" shoes I have been buying lately.

If you don't want slippery shoes, then don't buy the Solution Speed series. The SS2's were notoriously low-traction, and although Asics did partially address that with the SS3 series, the fit is a bit different.

The GR6 I would say has no break-in period at all. I played through a pair in the latter half of this summer and I didn't feel that the shoe significantly changed its characteristics after the first few hours - it was just consistent throughout which I really liked. I come from wearing Vapor 9 and 9.5s which become much less cushioned and more slippery as the notorious lack of outsole durability takes effect, and I was happy with how the GR6 stayed consistent.

I've never worn Lunars before, but if you are looking for a light fast fit, the Vapor 9.5 is where it's at. The one single downside with the V9.5s is the lack of durability. I think the next pair of shoes I'll buy is for sure going to be another pair of Asics, because I was so impressed with the cushioning and the consistency of the GR6.

I had the GR5 to, loved them. Bought some SS2's because I wanted a lightweight shoe ( as you I am quick) but I think they contributed to my planter fasciitis, not a lot of support imo, I only use them casually now.

I didn't like Asiscs GR5 on hard court, got pains in the balls of my feet (metatarsalgia), but I will give GR6 a try (one year later). A friend rolled an ankle in GR5.

I do love Asics GR5 (and most probably GR6) on clay though, the deepest herringbone thread....

I could not see CC Feather III for womens. I think its a mens model for now.

Too much traction can be dangerous to your ankles and knees.
No traction can also be the same.
Either way, YOU have to learn to adapt to the characteristics of your shoe. You can't run full out all the time for every point. Some amount of spacial awareness is needed. Don't blame the shoes, YOU fell down.

Then I researched G6's and then heard some cons about their tractions... I am aware that every shoe has their own cons and pros. And I know I can still fall down with my new shoes.. I know I sounded mean, but I have the Asics Gel Res 2's, and while slippery when new (only if you step on the painted lines), they got nice and controlled traction after maybe 10 playing days.
Some shoes have too much traction. One of my old Prince Hi Tops, like T-22's, would almost strain my knees if I was too excited trying to stop or start quickly, as it would never ever slide, and wore out really quickly.

I bought the New Balance MC 996 v2 on a whim since they were so cheap (50$!) and had a 1 year warranty. Pleasantly surprised at them. They work and feel great. Durability seems pretty low though, but at 25$ a pair after the warranty, can't complain!

Yeah in GR5 and all Nike Court Ballistecs and all Adidas Barricades (V,8).

Now I did notice that GR6 (and GR5 for that matter) are a bit longer/pointed toes and that could be problem with heal slippage on clay, but it wasn't a big deal for me on clay with GR5.
I also replace the stock insoles in all shoes and use Dr Scholl's active (with plastic reinforcement in the arch for added lateral stability).

Mind you ohter models of Asics run half a size small, such as Challenger (the second best Asiscs tennis shoe) or the lower entry Gel Game etc.

So I bought Asics Gel Resolution 6. They are just delivered today and I gave them a try inside the house. I have narrow/normal feet and did not have tight feeling right after I wore them. But I can feel outer balls of my feet and it is bothering me. It's like there is an extra cushion( but not) right under my outer balls I don't remember this issue with my GR 5's. I'm planning to play with them tomorrow for a better break in. Or maybe Return them...

Have a look at the adidas Stella series. My wife is on her 12th pair with 4 more pair waiting in the closet. They're the only shoes she wears. My daughter (who is playing club tennis in college) also wears them. She's on her 3rd pair.

So if you are 9.5 Women, get the 8 Men.

Interesting. I knew they were the same for Air Max Cage and Zoom Cage, where men's & women's sizes were literally the same shoe just stamped w/ a different number and PJ, but I did not realize the GR5s were like that as well. Normally the women's version is more narrow.

If you are looking for the similar plush cushioning with a secure fit and stability, I would suggest the Diadora Speed Star K IV (http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpage-DWSK4PW.html). They are one of my favorites. They fit a bit snug, so you really feel locked in, and they are so comfortable! The Lunar Ballistecs are also a great option as well as the adidas Stella Barricade Boost (I would recommend sizing down at least a half size in those).
