Nobody beats Mikhail Youzhny 17 times in a row!

Fed clearly falling back (Nadal-like) while hitting that forehand long.

I quit - I admit, I haven't a clue who this August 31st Zombie(er) is.
I had to leave for work. Fed was up 5-0, looked he like it was going to be 6-0. Faltered in one game but took it 6-1.

WTF happened after that??????????????????????

Two things:

1) Youzhny is going to have to break two streaks in the 5th (16 losses against Fed, Fed having won all 5 setters he's played this year)

2) Who's the cute blonde chick behind Mirka?

Barely 4 pages in this thread. Usually important Fed matches get around 30. But no one is paying much attention to this, thinking it's an obvious walk in the park.

I said before this slam started that almost anyone could win it. I will be SHOCKED if Fed wins this, even if he somehow pulls this match out...

Youz raised his game while Fed stayed stagnant. 3rd set Youz upped his game a bit more and Fed looks above pedestrian.

Hoenstly Fred looks same as he did in Montreal. Spraying balls on groundies but the serve is keeping him alive.

These old men are playing even older. None of their first serves are exceeding 100 mph. The outcome of this match will be decided by whoever sucks the least. Winner of this match will lose to another old fart, 35 yr old Feliciano Lopez.

Fed isn't winning this USO even in the wildest claims of his fans. It was obvious with his results after Wimby.

I started watching when Federer was serving to go up 2 sets to 0. Then he proceeded to play incredibly dumb and lose the set, reminding me of his match against Del Potro in 2009. Then he kept making UE after UE in the 3rd, with Youzhny smartly keeping the ball in play with the right level of aggression to keep Federer off balance.
4th set, Youzhny level dipped a bit, so Federer was able to take control back, sort of since he inexplicably lost his lead while serving for the set, again. Thank god he managed to break. Maybe it was just a trap to get to serve 1st in the decider.

Why would he be glad? Slow courts don't favor him and make him run more.

If the courts were faster as they used to be he would not have been in position to hit a single ball solidly. His primary weapon has always been his ability to attack his opponents with his superior offensive footwork.

And the worst part is Fed should actually be glad that it is. His movement right now really looks like that of a 36-year-old.

Not necessarily. I think he'd prefer it to be faster. Easier pace coming at him, means he doesn't have to hit hard and generate his own and that will save his back.

Plus faster court lower bounces means his serves especially first and slice are more effective. He's playing long points right now having to play a lot of defense. That has to be worse for his back and movement.

Just retire Youzhny.

You fought like a warrior. We will give you a standing ovation.

But you're not going further in this tournament even if you beat Fed, and you're gonna make us all very very sad :D

Despite the fact they're faster, nobody playing right now can re-direct the ball like a counterpuncher as Fed can do.

That's partially the reason he's still in this match and beat Tiafoe was his serve and re-direction.

My thoughts exactly, looks exactly like Montreal!

His footwork is just as good as ever, its the loss of speed with age. You are in a very small minority who thinks Fed prefers slower courts.

If Kyrgios gets fined for playing like an idiot on the court, both these guys need to be fined for playing worse than idiots. The quality is the worst out of all the matches so far.

Two warriors out there today.

The real winners are the tennis fans :)

Mirka is not looking very happy. They just missed their 6pm dinner reservation at Guy Fieri's Time Square food sextravaganza.

Youzhny had cramps early in the 5th when stretching in order to play a BH smash. He's still in this, since Federer is unable to put the ball in play more than 3 times in a row :(
